Morning and welcome.

To anyone new this is the Happy Place Café, all food and drink served here is calorie free. Everyone is welcome.

There are some people who have been here for literally years and others are newer.

The staff are me, obviously, Florence a French pastry chef who is married to Fernando the cocktail waiter (no one knows where Fernando is from so we suspect the marriage was about visas).

In a previous incarnation one of the regulars was Tilly (RIP) who brought a sparkling light in to the café along with a lemur named Leo.

Leo runs a dog wash (Tilly had a golden retriever and her family agreed to the dog wash as a tribute) but as there are rarely and dogs around he will wash anything, his other interests are goats and eggs. He spends every morning cooking eggs.

Outside the café is seating and a water feature, the water feature becomes a swimming pool in summer and an ice rink in winter. There is also a petting zoo.

Other residents are the kittenbees who are kittens the size of a bee with wings, they are very gentle but like to nibble anything sweet. Please do not give them alcohol.

Outside is where their larger cousins the bumblecats live, they are about the size of a fist and a lot more feisty than the kittenbees.

There is normally a daily special for breakfast and sometimes there is a pack up / bait / packed lunch.

Now to breakfast.

I thought a little trip to Germany would fit this morning so Florence is making bread rolls, soft and crusty, Leo is baking / frying / boiling eggs and Fernando is serving Apfelkorn.

I put out a selection of cooked meats, cheeses, jam, nutella, marmalade and if you want that abomination that people wither love or hate, it is in a locked box in the garden, far from the café, that is where it is to be consumed.

Actually I watched a vid from 'Atomic Shrimp' the other day that featured the brown paste added to warm milk.

Morning.

@ScottBakula I'm glad you like the breakfast.

For a change lets take a trip east to Kazakhstan.

Oatmeal porridge, taba-nan, baursak served with kaymak and jam. Tea with cardamom and fennel seeds.

Leo is boiling eggs.

There are some finely sliced lamb sausages (traditionally there should be some horsemeat but I have given them a miss.)

Florence is making a layered honey cake. The kittenbees are rather excited about it.

Fernando obviously is serving vodka.

Morning :)

Some porridge and honey cake for me please.

I’m so happy the weather’s a bit cooler, I was struggling last week.

sashh · 06/07/2025 05:33

One porridge and please watch out for the kittenbees, the do love honey.

MrsRandallFraser · 06/07/2025 08:06

I’ll just give them a little taste, Leo likes watching them.

sashh · 06/07/2025 08:08

That's good. That Leo likes them.

sashh · 07/07/2025 08:21

A very late morning to everyone.

I think just a simple breakfast today so sausage butties. Cumberland, Lincolnshire, apple and sage, lamb and bratwurst.

Florence is making the soft bread rolls for the butties, Fernando has orange juice and beer (not together).

Leo is making quiche for pack up, I'll put some coleslaw or pickles with it.

sashh · 08/07/2025 05:22

Morning.

Lets head to Switzerland.

Florence is making cinnamon buns and Weggli.

Leo is making Eirtatsch and I'll put out a selection of honey, jam and rhabarberkompott.

Fernando has, well he has brandy but somehow he has got a St Bernard, I hope only on loan.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 08/07/2025 06:37

Ooh can I have some Rhabarberkompott please @sashh and a cinnamon bun for later.
@MrsRandallFraser I hope baby Leo has enjoyed watching the kitten bees.

sashh · 08/07/2025 07:50

Of course @ScottBakula I'll bring it over.

Morning.

Well I was woken up by what sounds like a fox trying to get into the wheelie bin so here I am awake.

So breakfast, where shall we go? How about Japan? Steamed rice, fried mackerel, miso soup, pickles and Leo is making tamagyaki. Florence is making mochi and Japanese cheesecake.

Fernando obviously has saki.

For pack up I'm making bento with fried vegetable rice, pickled eggs (Leo's latest thing) melon pieces and green salad. I'll put a couple of small tubs of mayo and soy sauce.

MrsRandallFraser · 09/07/2025 03:12

Morning @sashh

Pesky foxes, I hope you get back to sleep soon.

I’ll take some tamagyaki and a slice of cheesecake please, sounds delicious.

sashh · 09/07/2025 06:35

Morning @MrsRandallFraser, I'll bring them over. How is Leo doing? I bet he is growing at a rate of knots

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 10/07/2025 03:12

@sashh he’s good thank you, yes growing like crazy which I love and hate equally.

Having a bit of a tricky night, he’s teething and not enjoying the experience at all. I’m going to need all the caffeine today.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 10/07/2025 04:06

Hay. I wonder what is for breakfast today.
I am yet to sleep, the sky is light and the birds are singing
Going to be hot today and i hate the heat with passion
Hope everyone has a good day

sashh · 10/07/2025 04:27

Morning.

Well I'm not sure if we have been to the Azores before so there is a first time for everything.

Grilled bolo levedo with cheese, bifana sandwiches and butter tarts.

Florence is making croissants and pastries.

Coffee made with arabica and Fernando has white sangria.

For pack up I have flasks of vegetable soup and Leo has made Chinese style marbled eggs (they are just hard boiled eggs with a marbled pattern).

And I'll put a couple of ham baguettes to go with it.

What can I get for you @ImDoneOnceAndForAll ?

sashh · 11/07/2025 02:50

Morning.

I don't know if anyone is coming in today but can you fend for yourselves? I need a bit of time.

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 11/07/2025 12:27

We were up at 4.30 but it was very quick wake up so didn’t pop in.

I hope you’re doing ok @sashh

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 12/07/2025 01:09

Hope you are ok @sashh

MrsRandallFraser · 12/07/2025 02:27

Morning everyone, hope you’re doing better today @sashh

Why don’t you have the morning off and go and put your feet up? I’ll pop the kettle on and make some toast and I’m sure Florence, Fernando and Leo can sort us out if we need anything else.

sashh · 12/07/2025 03:29

Morning.

Thank you @MrsRandallFraser.

I'll take your advice, do you want me to have Leo for a bit?

Yesterday I made the mistake of checking some test results on the NHS app, my FIT test is positive so it sad to see a Dr urgently, but of course they didn't open until 8.00am.

So I'm on a two week pathway to see the Colorectal surgeons who will probably want to do a colonoscopy.

The joys of getting older.

OP posts:
MrsRandallFraser · 12/07/2025 06:56

He’s all yours, he’s very cuddly when he’s sleepy so you’ve got him at a good time.

I’m so sorry to hear that, that must be scary! I was on the 2 week pathway for a breast lump earlier this year and luckily got seen much quicker so I hope it’s the same for you.

sashh · 12/07/2025 08:26

Thank you @MrsRandallFraser I'm of the view there is something wrong, it may or may not be cancer but either way worrying won't change things.

OP posts:
ScottBakula · 12/07/2025 13:53

Good afternoon all,
@sashh sorry to hear things not going well , I hope the docs can get you back on track and things work out well.

I have been on late shifts all week ( 1pm till midnight) its been unbelievabley hot going into work, UK buses are not designed to cope with this heat ! but least its been cool coming home.

I have to go into work to pick up a delivery, then if I have the energy I am going to build my ( house ) cat a cage outside.
After I plan to make a feta salad , anyone can help themselves.

tattoonewbie · 12/07/2025 23:27

Can I help out tonight ? I doubt I’ll be sleeping and it’s time someone looked after you too @sashhyou lovely thing. I’m not promising I can ever compete with your fare but I’m sure I can toast a bagel or two and I make decent coffee. Also happy to pop Leo on my hip while @MrsRandallFraserhas a test too
try not to worry too much. Many people with a positive Fit test don’t have anything sinister but it’s easier said than done to just switch off the worry. If you get referred for colonoscopy I’m here to share my top tips ! Many gleaned from MN

ImDoneOnceAndForAll · 13/07/2025 03:09

@sashhOfcourse so much easier to say but try not to worry

Myself, Partner and his dad have all had positive fitt tests and all put on a 2 week cancer pathway in the last 6 months
All had cameras / scans and all of us were ok and nothing to be worried about
Partners dad's result was extremely high too

I'v been on cancer 2 week pathway i think 6 times and every time iv luckly been ok

The positive thing is that you will be seen quickly
You will more than likely get a call to organise a camera and the delightful diarrhoea solution will be sent in the post to you
Take sedation that they offer
