2 year old cot to bed transition

I'm just looking for some advise or for people who have gone through it and have come out the other side.

For context I have a toddler who is just 2 and a 2 month old baby.

My toddler started climbing out of his cot a few weeks back so we transitioned him to a toddler bed, it's a bit earlier than I wanted with a newborn I wanted to put it off for another 6 months but it is what it is

Anyway he is taking ages to lay down and go to sleep, some nights it's 2 hours of putting him back to bed, we had a few nights of him not getting up at all and thought we had cracked it but he's gone back to not listening and getting out of bed and running about.

He still naps early afternoon if he's at home and nursery, I've tried cutting that back and tried wearing him out but nothing is working and it's wearing me out. He goes down for a nap fine I put him down leave him and he's asleep within 10 mins.

He thinks it's a game and laughs about it and gets excited when he gets out back, I've tried not engaging and being stern, once he's asleep he sleeps 10-12 hours and doesn't get up so that's also not an issue

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Op! I notice you posted this a while ago. How did you get on? I have a vested interest in this too as I have a 10 week old and a 2 year old who is only just two and I’m thinking I might need to do the same thing with the toddler bed!

Hey! @HallidayJones6779

Yeah I fixed the issue quite quickly after, every professional was telling me to keep putting him back to be every time he got up. We then opted for clear his room out so he has nothing to do and make it safe and just let him get up and do what he wants. He also has a gate on his door so he can't wonder around upstairs.

We now put him back 2 or 3 times and he'll either go to sleep, get himself back into bed or fall asleep on the floor

Much more relaxing we just watch him on the camera to make sure he's not doing anything too dangerous but overall I think we've pretty much cracked it now

Hope your transition goes well, try the back to bed method but my son is quite hyperactive at times so it just didn't work for him

Ohh so glad you found a way that works! My son is similar - the back to bed approach feels like it just wouldn’t work for him. I’ll keep your approach in mind as that sounds like something that would probably suit my boy too. Thank you for replying xxx
