Called NHS 24 about teething

He screamed for hours on end and Calpol didn't reduce his temperature. It went down to 38 when we were on the call however so ended up not taking him in. Have CPN in the morning but have given up on sleep. He's asleep on me. If I place him down he'll wake and remember his teeth and the screaming will start again.

I adore him and it's so horrible.

Are you sure he’s unhappy because of teething? I don’t recall mine ever having a high temperature or screaming uncontrollably because they were teething.

theotherfossilsister · 13/02/2023 05:24

I think that's why. They thought on the phone he might have a virus. I was all ready to take him in when his temperature went down and they told me not to. He's stuffing his hands in his mouth when awake and screaming.

Teething doesnt cause illness, fevers etc He is ill needs medical assessment. Teething is a diagnosis with a long history of STRANGE stories.

They said not to take him in if temp had gone down. It hadn't earlier but then it came down. Might call GP in the morning and just watch him until then.

Sounds like an ear infection.

theotherfossilsister · 13/02/2023 05:50

What can they do if it's an ear infection? I'll try calling GP when they open for a day appointment

You poor thing. It’s horrid to see them in pain. How old is he? My DS always gets feverish with teething and it takes longer than I think for the calpol to bring his temperature down. Try not to worry and he’s probably exhausted after all the screaming so you letting him sleep will help. If he keeps spiking a fever though after this, do call the GP and make a note of any other symptoms as there may be something else going on.

Six months he hadn't got teeth yet but his gums are hard and he's very into biting everything

He's asleep on my chest so I have to stay awake

Need to stop saying serious fevers are caused by teething they ARE NOT. if you delay medical assessment and it is serious think of the consequences. teething is a minefield of myth and misleading comments.

So it turned into a fever/cough/laryngitis thing. Went to GP twice. He's still coughing loads but temperature normal now. Just waiting for it to pass. Teething as well so double whammy.
