The program is fascinating. But it is making me very uncomfortable. That massive creature on right now cut open and laid out like that. The woman lying next to its liver and laughing like a loon. Seems so disrespectful. I don't know if I'm being silly.

booyhoo · 08/06/2010 23:51

i feel as though i am being silly too feeling like that but i cant help but wonder if they actually realise that it was a living creature and it suffered pain the same as we do. i couldn't imagine being so scared that i would vomit up my stomach. it really doesn't sit well with me that the shark was put through so much stress.

They did not catch and kill the shark for this programme though did they? It was my understanding (watched the Whale episode last year) that they only disect animals already dead. I assumethe shark got accidentally caught up in fishermen's nets, died, got hauled to shore and then the programme makers found out about it and did their bit.

Sonilaa · 09/06/2010 08:39

the shark got caught in a safety net, the kind that protects swimmers at beaches.
I find it fascinating to learn about this animal and I don*t think they are beeing disrespectful just curious and fascinated by this big creature.

thank you for clarifying. i wasn't sure who had caught him. i still cant bear te thought of him being so scared. i am just soft.

Oh I thought they killed it just to show it being cut up to see inside it. Must admit I wasn't paying too much attention at first because these kinds of programs make me queasy, but it was strangely compelling viewing. I think the snake thing next week will be fascinating as well.

blissa · 09/06/2010 13:23

I found this really interesting last night. I wanted to find out about how they sleep, if they can not stop swimming and do not close their eyes

muggglewump · 09/06/2010 13:25

DD and I watched it, and we watched the last series and find it absolutely fascinating.

Tortoise · 09/06/2010 13:26

Love this programme. Watched last series. DS1 13 was glued to it last night and found it very interesting.

i saw this too and despite it being a bit ewwwwwww i was unable to stop watching because it was just so interesting.

noeyedear · 09/06/2010 14:15

I thought the worst bit of it was when they were talking about the sharks being endangered and how people cut their fins off and just leave them to die. They showed that terrible picture of the shark with no fins. They should have made more of that imo, although it probably wouldn't have made any difference to the idiots who pay for shark fin soup

booyhoo · 09/06/2010 15:47

i have to confess that although i too would have been very interested in the physiology of the shark. i couldn't bear to see the dissection. i am glad i didn't watch further when i see that it talked of sharks being left to die with no fins. i would have been in tears.
