Should I Worry About...?

7:00pm - 7:30pm

BBC1 London & South East

VIDEO Plus+: 6704
Subtitled, Widescreen

4/6 - Jabs

Richard Hammond becomes part of a human experiment to find out how jabs work. He also has to make an urgent decision about the MMR jab - as his daughter is overdue to have it - and asks if is there any scientific basis for the worries about the MMR, and who is to blame for the confusing situation.

I actually wanted to hurt him .. stupid stunts .. pointless comments .. really bad camera work

am angry

Twiglett · 04/08/2005 19:30

he could have chosen to speak to

jabs
any of the parents who gave the 'anecdotal evidence'

what about how long do vaccines last?

RTKangaMummy · 04/08/2005 19:36

ok sorry guys for wasting your time

but I was thinking about the parents with their first child who have just heard little bits about MMR and didn't know as much as people who have researched it or experienced it.

I am really sorry

I won't bother next time

Also, why couldn't he have spoken to some parents about their anecdotal evidence - I think it does count because they do not have the vested intersts of drug companies and polititians.

And why could he not have taken a trip across the pond to speak to Wakefield? A balanced report would have interviewed him; or won't the BBC budget stretch to that?

Agree it was dumbed down - other MMR programmes I have seen made for parents consumption have been along the same lines. Interesting that he chose the singles route though (or was it the mother that pushed for that?)

Twiglett · 04/08/2005 19:39

Thanks for putting this thread on RTKM, am glad I got to watch.

But agree with the others, what an absolute waste of time and money.

CaptainCavemansMummy · 04/08/2005 20:07

missed the programme, no bad thing by the sounds of it!
RTK, have you had chance to look at the NHS website immunisation.nhs.uk - you may find what you need in there?
Don't know what the afore mentioned TV programme said but the 'original' MMR research was based on a really small sample (ie a couple dozen kids). Subsequent research I hear, based on about 230,000 kids found no link between MMR and autism.
Hope this helps and not confuses!!

Well to be honest you weren't ever going to get anything more gritty on the subject at at 7pm on Beeb 1.
