What a great episode this week. The families involved were lovely.

Did anyone think Jessica (girl in rich family) looked just like the girl in the Dairy Milk ad? It bugged me the whole way through....

because its organic? Theres lots of people that do outside catering for a fraction of that price. The menu looks like the food is already done its just a case of getting the stock and putting it together surely?

Yes there are loads of families. Interesting the first two have been one parent families. Hope that changes.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 18/04/2010 15:55

Organic isn't that expensive, I buy a box of veg from a local grower for £10, this feeds 2 of us for a week. Even organic cheese from the supermarket wouldn't be that expensive.

There are families living in one room of a bed and breakfast and have nothing, even in the last series none of the families were like this, at least the families being shown have something more then this.

kittya · 18/04/2010 16:18

I know, I watched that programme a couple of years ago about homeless families. I hope they show a family in that position.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 18/04/2010 16:25

I really don't get how they establish who lives under the poverty line in the UK. The difference between a family living in a bed and breakfast and a family living in overcrowded conditions or with debts is huge, I know how stressful having debts is but I can't come close to imagening how stressful it must be to be homeless with children to care for. The last two mums have been resourceful and worked hard to make a better life for their children by educating themself or setting up a business, it's really sad that things don't work out sometimes but where are the families who's parents don't or can't do this? Where's the families with disabled parents who are unable to find any job?

Greenshadow · 18/04/2010 16:35

The previous week's episode was interesting - the single mum with a PhD who wanted to get into law.
This is going to sound very un-pc/middle class, but I wonder if anyone had suggested that her hippy/travller type apperance is not what prospective employers look for in the legal profession. We all know it shouldn't make any difference, but we live in the real world where appearances do count.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 18/04/2010 16:51

It's hard to get a job in law though Green. I did a law degree, the law schools are churning us all out and there's few jobs, if you don't have a first class degree or were not educated at Oxford then it's really hard. I didn't manage to find one so I went into something else so I was guaranteed a job at the end of it, I liked my degree, it took me 4 years to get it as I was working part time aswell as being a single parent. I'm far from a hippy.

waitingforbedtime · 18/04/2010 17:02

I would have thought it would be better in these economic times to cut the organic side like others have said, it would b very sad if the business failed again - I hope she makes a success of it.

Website is pretty useless though imo esp as theyve spelt morecambe wrong on the map!

kittya · 18/04/2010 18:56

the menus are just too uninspiring for the price, Im no Nigella but I could knock them up in my own kitchen with produce from Asda!! Re the law degree, I have friends who are scruffy gits but they really do scrub up in court!! with a law degree though could she not of explored another line of work just for the time being?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 18/04/2010 20:02

She wants to be a barrister!
You can do alot with a law degree, they make good accountants apparantly.

kittya · 19/04/2010 09:54

I know she had her dream but sometimes you have to explore other options if it means keeping a roof over your head. I still cant understand why this week the housing benefit wasnt paying the rent and why the lady couldnt just do something else in catering rather then the organic outside catering, what about using all that money to open a nice coffee shop or something? or, listen to me being cynical I did really enjoy it and wish them all the best!

kittya · 20/04/2010 21:14

And my friend was saying today, fancy the poor little girl having to dress from her friends cast offs and not once complaining. Its difficult to get your head around in these days of Primark and Asda etc. Like my friend said it would be nice to see genuinely broke people, living in b and b's and seeing how they get helped.
