Help! Is Dr Who Suitable for little girls?

Hi, I've just put a ban on Dr Who for my 7yo dd, is this necessary ? I have sat and watched a couple of episodes and while they don't seem so bad they do seem a little dark.

My dd loves it (especially Rose) and it is a show her and DH watch together.

She woke from a nightmare the other night saying the whole family was locked in a cage and being tortured but she saved us!

My dd is quite bright and can seems to understand between fact and fiction but you know how 'real' fiction can appear.

I have viewed with her but can't view every episode, I decided against it after the nightmare (she does call out in her sleep fairly regularly but nightmares are less regular). She accepted it OK but I really don't know if banning it is necessary. I remember my cousin watching it when we were kids.

Unfortunately DH isn't really on the ball with whats suitable for dc's but I'm trying.

What do you think?

Plus, doctor who tends to end in resolution each episode
the baddies defeated
so no tears at sad or frightening endings

weeping angel episode an exception
I would avoid that one

I think he's a fabulous character for so many reasons.

Generally an odd looking, scrawny, yet charming alien in the form of a human who's spaceship is a box and can save planet earth with only his brains and a screw driver!

No muscly body, not big strong traditional hunk, no guns, and he doesn't believe in killing something as a solution.

If thats not the perfect super hero then I don't know who is!

Are you suggesting that it might not be suitable for little girls but OK for little boys of the same age?!

My DS has watched it since he was 4 (apart from Blink). I agree with the others, DS sometimes gets scared and watches through his fingers, but he loves the thrill of it all.

We cuddle up on a Saturday night on the sofa and watch it together.

If you think your DD might get nightmares then record it and let her watch it in the morning, we did this with Waters of Mars.

I have watched the Doctor since I was 6. I love it.

Its funny but blink was one of the episodes my DD (now 6) found the least scary. I think the psychological nature of the programme largely went over her head!

DS(11) is allowed to watch, but not dd(7) He has been watching it since he was about 9 I wouldn't let him watch it before as he had nightmares from watching scooby doo!
I do think 7 is a bit young; but all children are different. If you think she would be ok then you should go ahead.
