I love Mad Men but rarely see a thread. I want my Dh to dress like Don Draper
I'm wondering if I should spend the child benefit money on one of these dolls
Don
I also would love to have Betty's non interest in her children it would really free me up to go to the gym & have an affair

I am fascinated and appalled in equal measure.

The casual sexism is so shocking.

It is a brilliant programme. Superb writing. I have only just started too, am on episode four.

Just watched the children at the party saying "Don't take that tone with me" and "Well I LIKE sleeping on the couch" as they play in the wendy house

yippee! I am Joan. I thought I was going to turn out to be Peggy I thought the Lawn mower show was great I was really happy that the English bloke got to stay with the company. I love the American idea of the English in the 60's its so much fun. I wonder where the civil rights issues are going to take the programme. Wouldn't it be grerat if they could visit swinging London or would they get it wrong and spoil it for us?

I've just read the Mad men website and there is so much info on it and I feel I'm missing a few eposides from this series I think I need the box set. I'm not going to mention them as it might spoli the plot for others!

I can say its the only show apart from the Soptanos( watched every single one of them) that i never fast forward

although" conrad hilton" is starting to grate

ibangthedrums · 21/03/2010 20:54

I love mad men, although I do think the earlier series were slightly better.

I have to say I think Don's latest affair is a little far fetched. I always saw him as the type to keep all his dalliances seperate from home - esp after he and Betty's recent seperation. I can only imagine it will all blow up in a horrid way towards the end of the season (along with Betty's liaison!)

southeastastra · 21/03/2010 20:55

i think the teacher affair is out of character too a bit, though don has done lots of out of character things this series

i love betty's non-affair

ZephirineDrouhin · 21/03/2010 21:18

It's all I live for on a Wednesday evening. Agree Don's character seems less convincing lately though.

Love the fact that the only reason Betty curtailed her affair was the realisation that it was going to be "tawdry".

ibangthedrums · 22/03/2010 13:18

Thinking of the world of 60s advertising I would love the writers of Mad Men to time travel and re-write one of the episodes of Bewitched.

It would be hilarious to see Darrin Stevens shag someone in the office cheered on by Larry Tate. Meanwile Samantha is at home, drinking, smoking and ignoring Tabitha.

I used to love Bewitched (until I grew up and realised Sam should tell Darrin to get lost) but now I can't think of it in the same way!

policywonk · 22/03/2010 13:21

Why have Don and Roger fallen out? I've obviously failed to pay proper attention at some point. I like Roger. 'Sack you? I'm going to have to pretend I had you killed.'

ibangthedrums · 22/03/2010 13:25

I think it was something to do with Roger's new wife. She got v drunk at a party and Don helped her. Roger seemed to think something was going on. It all seemed trivial but I can't remember anything else

policywonk · 22/03/2010 13:28

Thanks. I remember the party scene (though had forgotten about Roger thinking Don was up to something with his wife). Doesn't seem sufficient to explain the bad feeling between them though, does it? I remember Don saying at one point 'I don't want to have anything to do with Roger' (as part of his negotiations when they forced him to sign the contract).

ibangthedrums · 22/03/2010 13:35

No, it doesn't. However, as I think about it after the party did someone (Cooper?) make them go for a "make up" meal which ended in a row?

Have I made that up or misremembered another scene? If not that could account for continuing bad blood. Strange also that Roger did come into his office following the lucky strike incident last week. Don more or less just agreed to fix it without any personal arguments?

policywonk · 22/03/2010 13:47

Yes, there was some scene where they went to a barber shop and ended up having a row (?) I can't remember why though.

ZephirineDrouhin · 22/03/2010 15:06

Hello policy,

Roger phoned their house and spoke to Betty about Don's contract after he had refused to sign it. I think that was the final straw.

policywonk · 22/03/2010 16:11

Hello zeph. Thanks. God, my short-term memory is bad

Scrudd · 22/03/2010 16:22

It's not just you, policy! I really struggle to remember the finer details of each episode, so I tend to watch it twice each week. Such a shame

I can't remember what the original row between Don and Roger was about, or what they rowed about at the barber's shop either. I must've had wine that night but it did seem that roger's phonecall to betty was the last straw.
