am finding it an interesting and moving documentary. Greg, at 15, seems to be coping so well and the support of his friends was really encouraging.

My heart aches for John, the Scottish fellow. He was utterly let down as a teen. I've been in tears. I'll be honest, I chuckled a few times too tho . I remember watchin' this first time.

PandaG · 17/03/2010 22:02

yes, is heartening to see how things have improved for Greg as a teen. Their friendship at the end seemed positive too.

I'm watched and found it interesting too. Greg seemed to cope so well.

watched it with the kids, DS who has aspergers watched it too, i think some of the issues resonated with him, especially the bullying issues at secondary school.

i think john and greg and the other chap - chopper - are amazing tbh.

we all laughed at times though, some of the things John shouts are funny, but i feel for him constantly apologising. i wanted to hug him.

i hope they go back for a follow up in another 7 years.

PandaG · 17/03/2010 22:10

yep, I wanted to hug JOhn - and Greg actually.

I would be interested in a follow up too. Was very moving, the whole programme.

Saw it last year. It's quite sad but also very educational

I watched this last night and had missed the two previous programmes about John and Greg.

I thought it an excellent documentary. When they showed poor little Greg as a small boy I could have wept for him, also John as a teenager. I think it is really heartening the way Greg's school friends now seem to be able to accept him as he is.

There were also laugh out loud moments too!

Documentaries like this do a brilliant job at raising people awareness of such a condition.

MathsMadMummy · 18/03/2010 13:17

we watched this. I feel so sad for John, glad he's got that family to hang out with, but he just wants someone to love him

...couldn't help laughing when chopper shouted 'another gay man' lol

Happy to see how well Greg is doing. I remember the programme when he was little, I think it was him who apparently was crying that he wanted to die because of the condition, it made me so sad that I still remember it 7yrs later! So it's a relief to see he's coping now. He's turned into a very articulate young man.

the documentary really showed how you need a sense of humour to cope with it. I'd always thought the tics were the same thing over and over, didn't know they can actually be quite witty and relevant remarks! such as 'imagine you're in a field...' John shouts 'up to my knees in cow pat...'

normally I find this type of documentary rather exploitative but this one was really good.

CaptainPicardsPineapple · 18/03/2010 13:24

We watched it too. It was, in turns, very sad, very funny and very touching. On the whole a brilliant documentary.

Jacksmybaby · 18/03/2010 19:21

I cried my eyes out. Greg was amazing - so articulate, thoughtful etc - i.e. so different from his "tic"'s personality that it made it somehow even sadder to watch. Really interesting that he referred to his "tic" as like a separate person. The footage of him aged 7/8 or so was really moving and sad - e.g. him saying he didn't like the language his "tic" used when it made him say things like "shut your f-ing gob" and he wanted to scream at the tic to be quiet. I felt so much for his parents too - the bit when his dad said he was grieving for the son he had lost. They have obviously done an amazing job of bringing him up to be a really decent young man.
And John was sad (and also funny!) too - he has had a much tougher time of it in terms of lack of family and understanding from early on.
