anyone else see this? worrying i'm now wondering what we would do if we were both suddenly made redundant.

Well as long as you don't work together, that's pretty unlikely. And if you do work together, maybe think about one of you moving.

I work in marketing which is always the first thing to get pruned in a crisis so I try to stay in the black, keep an emergency fund tucked away and keep at least one interview outfit ready to go.

And learn not to panic, it's not personal. It's not about you, it's normally about someone making some bad decisions higher up.

Plus join a business networking site so you can track down all the people you used to work with and put the word out that you are looking for a new job.

Apart from that, forget about it and get on with life, it may never happen.

My OH and I were both made redundant and we didn't work for the same company.

He's managed to find something on about half the salary and to be honest we get by and we've even managed to keep up with the mortgage although we have modified our spending habits considerably.

I now have a whole different view of people on benefits and those that begrudge them every penny (although in our cases we got reasonable compensation and didn't have to claim a thing)

It can happen.

i felt so sorry for the couples on the programme, thinking i should be starting to save something, anything, in case this happens to us.

Oh, I watched this the other night, great programme but should've been on much earlier. Thought the couple from Cleveland (builder dad) could've solved all their financial woes by putting their daughter on the stage - she was fabulous .

Poor Andy - from a European Sales Director to minicab driver .

I'm in the middle of watching this. I've been in tears already. Seeing him cry and that same expression thats been on my dhs face a lot recently.
Rockdoctor. I actually have found that though benefits are a fecking nightmare to work out, I'm still not sure ours are right, they're pretty good considering and I can really see how easy it would be to say lets not bother looking for a job. My dh is about to take on a contract for six months and we will actually have less money but money isn't everything and his (and my) mental health means a lot.
