so sad for him and his family

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 20:06

Oh, she's good! I'd have never thought of trying that approach to get info out of the kid.

I can't believe he has got to six years old and they haven't had any help.

Ds 3.6 was like this last year. I took him to the doctor and the HV and they said just give him what he wants.

Thankfully he is getting better but still not great.

orienteerer · 02/03/2010 20:14

I've seen this sugar experiment before on another documentary, the sugar made no difference!

JollyPirate · 02/03/2010 20:15

I am watching this too.

poshtottie · 02/03/2010 20:20

I'd better take notes! I don't want this to be my ds when he is six.

Alambil · 02/03/2010 20:22

I'm going to watch later - sounds interesting!

sungirltanhasanactualhairstyle · 02/03/2010 20:25

trichlotillomania. interested to know how she can manage this one

JollyPirate · 02/03/2010 20:26

I like Jo Frost - I may not always agree with her methods but she's friendly and appraochable, speaks alot of sense and takes children who many others have washed their hands of and often seems to work miracles.

5inthebed · 02/03/2010 20:30

I'm watching it. Is it just me, or does it usually seem more training the parents than the kids?

The last little boy looks like he is a wild one.

Alambil · 02/03/2010 20:35

surely it has to be training the parents to deal with the children - kids aren't programmable (unfortunately)

Megletwantsittobesummer · 02/03/2010 20:38

5inthebed IME it's all about training the parents . My HV is a bit supernanny-ish, she's fab.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 02/03/2010 20:39

that poor boy...

just watching the girl now.. will be interested to see what they do there.

taking the dummy away will probably be her first move (watching it recorded)

MarionCole · 02/03/2010 20:39

"This programme was brought to you by Fruit Shoot"

sungirltanhasanactualhairstyle · 02/03/2010 20:40

the hair pulling is a recognised anxiety disorder

poshtottie · 02/03/2010 20:41

I can't believe that little girl is 3, thought she was much younger.

maxpower · 02/03/2010 20:47

I'm always amazed at this programme. The parents are desperate for help, SN tells them what to do, they see it working but give up as soon as she leaves! I know it's not easy but I just don't understand why the don't follow the rules.

WomblesOfRichmondshire · 02/03/2010 20:49

What's the issue with the boy?

poshtottie · 02/03/2010 20:49

Wombles, he won't eat.

anniebear · 02/03/2010 20:52

what a daft dummy fairy......she didnt take the dummies away but left them on the door.....

silly silly dummy fairy!!!!!!!

enjiy this prog but the hair pulling one is irritating me

5inthebed · 02/03/2010 20:53

What Lewis! Kids aren't programmable? Where's my receipt!!!

fluffles · 02/03/2010 20:54

i've worked with kids since i was a student including summer camps, activity centres, guides and brownies etc. and i have always known that the sugar thing was rubbish for 99% of children.

kids work themselves into a 'sugar' frenzy because someone has told them they will be hyper if they have sugar... you can get them to do it even if they haven't had any [evil grin] and you can also feed them sugar secretly and they don't get hyper at all.. when you have kids on camp for a week you deliberately hype them up at times for games etc. and calm them down again and it's all suggestion, honestly.

i know a FEW children have an intolerance to certain ingredients and i'd never mess with that but i think this is usually e-numbers linked to colour rather than sugar.

expatinscotland · 02/03/2010 20:55

WHY is she still giving this kid a dummy?!

BooyhooNOTboohoooORbooyou · 02/03/2010 20:56

i'm watching this. does anyone else think that the mum following the tantrumming boy with the camera was only fueling it?

anniebear · 02/03/2010 20:57

expat...did you not see...it was the dummy fairy, she didnt do her job properly and left the dummies hanging in the bag on the door

sack the dummy fairy I say lol
