Waybuloo - Religious indoctrination?

paisleyleaf · 11/02/2010 23:37

some Christian communities are upset that Waybuloo includes religious aspects of Buddhism and Hinduism such as meditation and enlightenment

I forget that there are people who actually think like this.
And the comments - complaining to OFCOM?

Oh, please! Some people need to get a grip. The girls and I love doing the yoga together and baby DS tries to join in.

spookycharlotte121 · 11/02/2010 23:40

Im christian and this doesnt bother me in the slightest. Some people over think things and have too much time on their hands. Its not doing any harm and if they dont like it then they shouldnt waatch it..... simple as.
Cant stand the programme tho.... hate the way they talk in namby pamby voices and dont use proper sentances.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/02/2010 23:42

Oh my goodness, that is awful! The implication is that it doesn't matter whether your child is happy or not as long as they are being good little Christians so that they will go to Heaven.

spookycharlotte121 · 11/02/2010 23:48

this person has it spot on.

"What I think this raises though is that it is not the BBCs responsibility to bring up our children in the way of the Lord, it is ours as Christian parents. We will be held accountable and not the BBC. I?m happy to let my kids watch Waybuloo and anything else on CBeebies but I will explain that it is through Jesus Christ and a relationship with Him that we find contentment and life."

Glad there are some people out there who are a little more level headed.

LittlePushka · 11/02/2010 23:53

These so called "christian" communities should be ashamed of themselves IMHO. As if they can adduce any evidence of this whatsoever! Pah!

And anyway, if my LO's (1 and 3)watched an episode and wanted to covert or be enlightened or even just want to explore more yogo as a result then I would encourage whatever spiritual freethinking they had.

And I say that as a christian.

I rather like it: it is very calming and positive..and the whole family joins in. What can be wrong about that?...all great whatever faith (if any)you follow, surely?

ToccataAndFudge · 11/02/2010 23:53

how odd - it was directed by a very devout Christian.........

BitOfFun · 11/02/2010 23:54

Why does any one religion have the monopoly on spirituality?

LittlePushka · 11/02/2010 23:55

,...convert, not covert (sorry!)

paisleyleaf · 11/02/2010 23:56

I would expect the vast majority of Christians to be more level headed about it like that person ..... and not threatened by the piplings.

OP posts:
LittlePushka · 12/02/2010 00:03

Pushka laughs at Piplings threatening behaviour...! All that celestial zooming about. And clearly they have reincarnated, having previously been the teletubbies!

spookycharlotte121 · 12/02/2010 00:05

Makes me wonder if Im just a really crapola christian or wether im just more relaxed about life. I hope my children grow up with god in their life but I cant force them to and I dont think watching a monkey doing a few exercises and floating is going to corrupt them.

spookycharlotte121 · 12/02/2010 00:05

lol piplings with little spears.... now that could be interesting

paisleyleaf · 12/02/2010 00:06

LOL, I'd meant to write 'and not feel threatened by the piplings.
Little evil Piplings that they are - corrupting our preschoolers.

What concerns me more about that programme is the worrying inability of me to do yogo poses and the perfection with which DS's manage...... puska harumphs off to bed vowing to retrain as a Buddhist in the morning!

duffpancake · 12/02/2010 00:15

I would think Buddhists and Hindus would have more to complain about if those simpering baby-talking flat-heads are supposed to be depicting their religion. Dd loves it; I keep hoping that when they all float up in the air, the girl with the plummy accent is going to whip out a shotgun and shout "Pull!"

bambipie · 12/02/2010 08:47

I hate this prog, weird and freaky.
what are the creatures anyway, I find them really creepy in a horrible floaty way. And their voices are so annoying. And why are the children always dubbed?

DD loves it though, calls the creatures 'rats', so we watch a lot when I am bf dd 2.

We are yet to take up religion.

BlueberryPancake · 12/02/2010 16:46

I hate that show because they don't speak properly. I don't mind the characters having their own language but you just can't hear them they don't pronounce words properly. I'm kind a scared of them anyway they give me nightmares.

Dannixx · 21/02/2010 23:11

I have never heard anything more stupid..People who take the time to pick religious holes in babies tv need to look at the bigger picture. There are alot more things we need to protect our children from..brightly coloured, make believe characters doin yoga arnt one of them!!(maybe alot of children wouldnt be so unhealthy if they done some yoga)

Monadami · 22/02/2010 21:08

My 8.5 month old loves it, he's been hooked since he was 4 months and just can't seem to get enough and just sits there cooing and grinning.
