That's how Jason Gardiner described Sharron Davies. Is it me or is this just wrong? Our kids are watching this.

I think it was horrible of him to say that. It was because her costume is brown.

5inthebed · 31/01/2010 20:34

Not watching it tonight as DH watching some naff film. Have they got her dressed in an outfit resembling a swimming costume again

HelloThisIsJoanie · 31/01/2010 20:34

it must be the men she chooses

HelloThisIsJoanie · 31/01/2010 20:35

Cyb · 31/01/2010 20:36

Yes it was a horrible comment but her costumes are equally horrible.

HelloThisIsJoanie · 31/01/2010 20:37

blime listen to this
"In the 1980s, Davies lived with and was engaged to Neil Adams,[4] who had won numerous Olympic and World Championship medals in judo, until he left her suddenly to marry a hairdresser.

Davies then married physical training instructor John Crisp in West Sussex in 1987; they divorced in 1991.

In 1992, she met athlete Derek Redmond at the Barcelona Olympics. In 1994 they married in Northampton, they had two children together: Elliott Anthony (born 1993, Northampton) and Grace Elizabeth (born 1998, Gloucestershire). They divorced in 2000.[5]

Davies' third marriage was to British Airways pilot Tony Kingston.[6] They married in 2002 in Gloucestershire.[7] In Autumn 2006, she announced that she was three months pregnant after IVF treatment, having been trying for a baby for four years and suffered two miscarriages. During a Sports Relief event in Devon, she said: ?We?re very optimistic and happy but we?re cautious, too, because of what we have been through. Giving birth at 43 doesn?t worry me. I?m in better shape than most women 15 years younger. So many women go through this as they leave it later to have babies.? Davies gave birth to her third child, son Finley John Kingston-Davies, on 30 January 2007. She split up with Kingston after 7 years of marriage.[8]

Jason just gets worse - he is now in danger of parodying himself.

ThatVikRinA22 · 31/01/2010 20:41

so he was calling her shit basically....

not nice.

cory · 31/01/2010 21:06

He will be in trouble over this, surely.

Sharron does get on my nerves, but he could have come up with something a bit more refined.

cissycharlton · 31/01/2010 21:42

At least ITV had the sense to not repeat the comment.

I would kill for a figure like Sharrons, she has an amazing body.

That said I would not pose for family photos looking like a hookah with my daughter. That's just wrong.

Calling Sharron a turd was unkind, Frankie looked like she was going to kill him with the 'dog/bone' comment.

lovemynano · 01/02/2010 16:55

I don't watch it, but feel I have to stick up for Sharron.

Many many years ago she used to turn out every year without fail to present trophies for my local swimming club, and would come to galas to lend support and provide tips. She was unfailingly lovely with all of the children and parents (my dad loved her to bits). We always had a disco and she always always danced with great enthusiasm and was the last to leave! This was a tiny local club, no great kudos or publicity attending.

All this for no money and probably little in the way of thanks. I thought she was lovely .

BooToYouToo · 02/02/2010 12:53

He's just been forced to apologise on This Morning. Sounded v. insincere and obviously only did it because he was told to.

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/02/2010 17:29

id pay to see him on skates....then i could point and laugh

cissycharlton · 02/02/2010 23:11

Saw the apology. Funny how quickly they moved on to this season's new trends!

I am glad that he had to apologise for this - I thought it was a thoroughly unpleasant thing to say. I did think that it was one in the eye for Jason when Sharron and Pavel were called first on the skate-off show. I wonder if the producers did that on purpose?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 02/02/2010 23:38

Here's the apology if anyone wants to see it.

I don't have a problem with him when his comments are accurate and constructive, though he can be blunt to the point of rudeness, but there was no excuse for that comment whatsoever.

I don't want to watch a bunch of celebrities having their egos massaged - I like Dancing on Ice precisely because they are having to do something really challenging and not at all easy, and they are working so hard to get good at it, and I do want the judges to be honest, even if it is less than flattering - but this went too far.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 03/02/2010 17:02

What an unimpressive apology!

I emailed a complaint straight after the show and got this back :

Each week, Jason gives feedback to the celebrity contestants. He is very forthright in his views, and like all our judges he offers a unique perspective when critiquing each performance, and where appropriate contestants are given an opportunity to respond directly to the judges? comments.
However, Jason accepts that some of his comments about Sharron?s performance on Sunday may have caused offence to her and to viewers, for which he has apologised. Likewise ITV is sorry if you were offended by these comments.

That's a weasel apology too, isn't it? may have caused offence? if you were offended?
Why can't anyone admit they were wrong and say sorry properly?

I wouldn't have emailed them if I wasn't offended!

bruceb · 04/02/2010 19:38

I am afraid that a proper apology almost doesn't exist these days.

Saying sorry that you've caused offence is completely different from saying that you regret what you've said.

What the former demonstrates is a contempt for the listener ("I can make it sound like I'm apologising and you will leave me alone, but I haven't") while the latter is proper regret.

Personally I didn't watch the programme, or the apology, so I'm only commenting in a pedantic sort of way.

And (also speaking personally) I would continue to email and demand a 'proper' apology, pointing out that their apology is nothing of the sort.

However, I wouldn't hold your breath -'judges' on these sort of shows are encouraged to be 'edgy' as it attracts ratings, viewers and controversy.

Your only sanction would be to not watch.....which I guess you're not likely to do.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 05/02/2010 17:42

The stupid thing is that Jason can be edgy enough just talking about the celebrities' performances, without resorting to personal comments. But I am sure they're not going to bollock him as he deserves to be bollocked, because he is pretty vital to the show.
