Very good to have a breast cancer storyline and it seems to have been done very well so far.
I know it is confined by the limits of television drama so it would be unrealistic for Sally to be taken over by chemotherapy for months and months but I feel that there is a bit of misrepresentation going on too.
Sally's diagnosis after surgery was very good but it seemed to be done and dusted all in one simple operation- oh and a daily tablet and some radiotherapy was tagged on almost as an afterthought. Lumpectomy or Wide Local Excision isn't always a tiny little neat scar - sometimes it leaves your breast a bit dented and wonky..plus her arm would be hugely sore and stiff, yet she was able to hug her girls and go to the Trafford Centre within days ! She seems to be having radiotherapy within 3 weeks of the operation too.
Without being a public information film and all preachy it'd be nice to have a bit more of a realistic view on what it's like to have to consider taking tamoxifen for the next 5 years and that even after a good outcome you can never really be 'in the clear' - it doesn't work like that.
I know it all needs to be pitched right so as not to frighten people into not seeing their GP if they notice any lump or changes.
Of course,I stand corrected if the storyline does expand on these points !
