I musnt make the mistake of having a glass of wine with it I will be crying before the first break

tiredsville · 17/01/2010 22:37

Actually, I thought those lovely children looked a darn sight happier than the chilren over here (UK)

megapixels · 17/01/2010 22:54

I wish she wouldn't speak English to some of those people who clearly seem to not understand much of what she was saying. She was probably doing that for the benefit of the viewers but it would have been so much better to just speak to them in their language and subtitle it. Looked quite rude.

Very good eye-opening program that made me cry in some parts.

yama · 17/01/2010 22:56

Is it suitable for children to watch?

Alambil · 17/01/2010 22:57

Hassim's story has made me well up

The school bus is a life saver, I hope... I hope her dream of getting the children an education to leave the slums is realised

yes, yama - older children (9/10 up I rekon)

There have been distressing scenes such as the workers on the dump site, but that will only open discussion, not traumatise

Thanks Lewisfan.

I taped it to show to 13/14 year olds at school but couldn't watch due to marking.

I'll watch it this week and cobble together a worksheet.

Cheers

Alambil · 17/01/2010 23:03

oh it'll be fine for them...

Megapixels - I think she speaks Hindi, and some of the people appeared to be speaking Urdu, maybe that was why she spoke in English? She certainly had an interpreter at some points.

I thought her relatives in Delhi were fascinating - the way they've justified doing nothing to themselves for fear of being tricked.....

Alambil · 18/01/2010 12:29

That astounded me!

backtolingle · 18/01/2010 14:55

yes but we are doing the same here in ENgland really aren't we?

BIGmamma79 · 23/01/2010 02:26

I watched this with my boyfriend and it reminded us of our trip to South India. While we were there we visited the Happy Children's Home. They have a web page at happychildrenshome.blogspot.com
We took an extra 20KG of clothes and school items for these children. It was good to see how those whom are less fortunate than ones self live. That really made me cry.....

madusa · 24/01/2010 17:54

it is shocking that there are wealthy people there who don't seem to be willing to help those who are so much in need of the basics.

Didn't they say more than 50 billianaires in Mumbai? I wonder how many millionares there are?

dayday · 26/01/2010 22:37

i think all our children should watch it, so they can appreciate things so much more. we have got such a priveleged life. i was in tears an shocked and made all my kids watch it.
