Oh it's brilliant AND it has Colin Firth.

foxinsocks · 16/01/2010 19:04

first time I've seen it. Really enjoyed it (in a kids' movie saturday afternoon way!)

BecauseImWorthIt · 16/01/2010 19:05

I've never seen it before and I have to confess that I wept at the end

whyme2 · 16/01/2010 19:08

I loved it.

Drooper · 16/01/2010 19:12

Brilliant film.
Can't wait for Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang-due out at Easter (think thats what it's called, having some doubts now...)

Monadami · 16/01/2010 19:18

I find the boy, who was also in Love Actually quite annoying.

JollyPirate · 17/01/2010 09:55

Oh yes - can't think of his name but apparently a distant cousin of Hugh Grant, Mmmm! Wonder how he got a break into the movies.

Am always very irritated by the number of actors and actresses related to someone famous and already in the biz.

satc2bringiton · 17/01/2010 10:01

Julia Roberts neice is good though (hotel for dogs)

RustyBear · 17/01/2010 10:18

The girl who played Lily was at the school I work at; she was in Year 4 when she did it - lovely family, not related to anyone in film/TV afaik.

chimchar · 17/01/2010 10:29

i love that film too....have watched it loads.

MrsBadger · 17/01/2010 10:33

the books it is based on are even better

chimchar · 17/01/2010 11:01

mrs badger...they look great! are they suitable for boys reading, or are they more girly iykwim? also, what sort of age are they aimed at?

ta muchly!

BertieBotts · 17/01/2010 11:48

Am I the only one who hated it and found it predictable and dull?

BecauseImWorthIt · 17/01/2010 12:42

Well of course it was predictable! You've just got no romance ...

AnyFucker · 17/01/2010 12:45

it is a great film

badietbuddy · 17/01/2010 12:46

I love it. But was most when we passed Emma Thompson in the street and she stopped to smile at ds in his sling. Dd was 4 at the time and said none too quietly 'Mummy, it's Nanny McPhee!' Thankfully she just smiled at dd. Probably gets it all the time

megapixels · 17/01/2010 14:49

Just you BertieBotts .

JollyPirate · 17/01/2010 14:53

I think Emma Thompson comes across as a lovely person in interviews and from what I've read about her. The interviews on the DVD were good too and she seemed really understanding of the child actors too. She related a scene in the film where they are all on the beach and the director who was pushed for time said "we HAVE to get this done so no more questions unless they are really important ones" at which point one of the younger children put his hand up and said "excuse me but do you know what's in our sandwiches at lunch" lol. But as Emma Thompson said "if you are 6-7 then of course that's a terribly important question". And she is quite right too.

MrsBadger · 17/01/2010 17:35

the books aren't boy/girl specific but nothing actually blows up so if you have diehard adrenaline junkie boys they may not take to it.

good for readign aloud to 7+, reading alone 9ish I guess

chegirlsgotheartburn · 17/01/2010 17:51

I absolutly love the Nurse Matilda books. I have a few up in my loft somewhere. I keep meaning to get them down....

DS loves Nanny McPhee and watches it over and over and over.

He asked for a stick for last Christmas so I got him a walking stick from the charity shop. After a couple of months of him banging it on the bedroom floor it mysteriously went missing.......

MaggieNilAonSneachta · 17/01/2010 17:53

it is! i love it.

Eve4Walle · 17/01/2010 18:15

My DD adores it. I love the baby in it!

Also very good for older children is Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - another excellent film, also worth watching just for the baby in it (Sunny I think her name is).
