Awwwww ... I'm going to have to dig out that episode now. Thanks for reminding me!

lilibet · 28/12/2009 11:41

CJ, did you know that the things in your goldfish bowl change according to the episode?

In In Excelcis Deo it's Christmassy, when it's the state of the union speech it's a podium and two microphones, there are more but I can't remember them!

I didn't know that - thanks for pointing it out! Not sure this thread is a good idea - I keep being drawn back to the box set and am not sure how long I can resist rewatching the whole thing ...

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 11:02

And I was right. Watched eleven episodes of Season One over the weekend ... including In Excelsis Deo, still one of my favourites.

I can't resist the episodes where there's a big event at the White House, or it's Christmas (especially if there's some action in the Situation Room as well, especially if it involves Fitzwallace). Looking forward to the Yo Yo Ma/Josh shooting angst one, and CJ going to the dentist ('We have to tell the Pwesident'). There goes January ...

lilibet · 11/01/2010 21:15

"Woot Cwanal"

Laughing out loud at the thought of it.

I only have to think about 'there's a guy down a hole' and my bottom lip trembles.

Ds2 loves Two and a Half Men, he was watching one the other day, I was in the next room and I could hear a conversation which made me shoot into the lounge. Alison Janey was a guest, I had heard her talking to Charlie Sheen and thought it was West Wing and worse than that A BIT I COULDN'T PLACE !!!

He sounds so like his dad.

I need to watch West Wing again. If you have watched 11 episodes of series one does that include The Crackpot and These Women where Josh is offered his pass? And Mr Willis of Ohio, one of the best ones ever. And The Stackhouse Fillibuster?

I can't stop laughing at the 'woot canaw' either - can't remember which episode it is but am quietly anticipating. I have a new DP who has never seen it and is totally hooked, hence eleven episodes in one weekend. First half of season one, so yes, the Crackpots (big block of cheese day!) and Mr Willis of Ohio but no Stackhouse Filibuster yet. Leo's booze and pills story is about to blow up, they've shafted CJ by not telling her about the India/Pakistan situation and Danny has talked her into a date ... left it on Lord John Marbury demanding a light and calling Leo the butler. So much still to come!

Oh, and nobody even knows about Bartlet's MS yet. I know I am going to 'fritter' hours of my life on watching the entire thing again, but I don't care. It's still better than anything else around. I love, love, love them all.

CJCregg · 14/01/2010 14:06

Watched it last night - Celestial Navigation. Realise I got it wrong, it's Josh who - spectacularly - screws up the press conference with the President's Secret Plan to Stop Inflation.

Brilliant episode.

Hassled · 15/01/2010 22:37

Can't believe I missed this thread on the 23rd December.

CJ, I envy you having someone who's never watched it and who you can indoctrinate afresh. DH and I have converted DS1 (who wants to be Josh) but I need someone else to pick on .

We've stalled on fourth viewing of Season 6 (we go round the horn - takes us a while) but need to get back on the case.

MmeLindt · 15/01/2010 22:43

DH has not watched it and does not want to.

Ironing to be done at the weekend, so WW it is. Am currently on Season 3, War Crimes and have just seen that we are only 3 episodes from The Women of Qumar. Go CJ!

CJCregg · 15/01/2010 23:05

Ooh, hello Hassled and Mme Lindt! As you can see, I've just been talking to myself for the past few days, but thoroughly enjoying it. DP has gone off with the rest of Season Two with strict instructions NOT to watch the last episode without me. I'm sure I must be really annoying to watch it with - lots of sniggers and intakes of breath and 'this is a good bit, shut up' going on. I'm thrilled that he loves it, though.

MmeLindt, what is wrong with your DH? What's not to like? Enjoy your ironing!

Hassled, your DS could do a lot worse than end up as Josh. Can't imagine my DCs (currently far to young, sadly) being interested in the West Wing, but maybe they're absorbing it through the ceiling ...

CJCregg · 15/01/2010 23:09

Sorry, that should be Season one that DP's got.

Hassled · 16/01/2010 18:59

Did you see that The Guardian only rated West Wing eleventh in its best TV series of all time? Here. A complete travesty.

DH are West Winging it just as soon as the DCs are in bed. We are just SO middle-aged.

CJCregg · 16/01/2010 20:02

I did see that. Some extraordinary choices, quite UK-biased and some of the really dated. Brideshead, yes, fine I suppose, but how many times do you want to rewatch 13 hours of it - let alone 22, eh? Answer me that!

Enjoy your evening. DP has waltzed off with series 2, so if there's nothing else on (no Popstar to Opera Star tonight ) I might just pick a random episode from, oh, I don't know - Season 4, maybe ...

TheFallenMadonna · 16/01/2010 23:18

Oooh - a WW thread. I starting watching season 1 again today. I have it on video (thanks to lovely Ellbell) and have been video-less for ages so it's been a while. I had forgotten about Maddy. Or at least mercifully blocked her from my consciousness...

TheFallenMadonna · 16/01/2010 23:20

Mandy

See? Mental block?

MmeLindt · 16/01/2010 23:24

Favourite characters on WW?

Mine is CJ (of course) and I guess I would go for Donna. I like how Donna changed and grew up over the course of the series.

TheFallenMadonna · 16/01/2010 23:29

My favourite characters are CJ (does that even need saying) and early Toby. Not so much late Toby though.

CJCregg · 17/01/2010 09:53

Mandy was an aberration - Aaron Sorkin took his eye off the ball! It's interesting, though, how the series starts focusing on her and Sam as the major characters, the President's really in the background and it's all a bit 'Hollywood'. They obviously had to pitch it like that to get the show made, and then realised they could take it more in their direction.

Apart from CJ (obv) it's hard to pick a favourite character - I love them all. Love Donna and Josh's relationship ('I want my money back'), Toby is dour but wonderfully so and has the best put-downs, Josh a sweetie but so cocky and I love it when he cocks up, Sam is quite smug but I forgive him because he has such integrity ...

One of my favourite moments ever is when Abby Bartlet forces the West Wing women to get drunk with her. Didn't like Will Bailey much, and worst moment ever was when the glorious god that was Fitzwallace was killed. Doom, doom ...

Oh God, I'd better shut up now.

MmeLindt · 17/01/2010 20:13

Started watching Women of Qumar today but DH came home so will watch it tomorrow.
