Anyone watching? I wish it wasn't on so late. I watched the other series with ds when it was on at 7pm a few months ago. It really brought history to life.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/12/2009 21:13

Yes, Rupert Acton was at college with me. Such a nice person.

MollieO · 11/12/2009 21:13

No - it is on BBC2!

I wonder if Kirstie is watching the soap making?!

dear me i sound so sad, i loved the other series, but never knew when it was on and caught it whenever it was on

MollieO · 11/12/2009 21:16

I think when we saw the other series we were watching repeats. It was on every night at 7pm for a while. Ds (5) would sit and watch it transfixed.

i love all these kind of programs, do you remember the 1900 house?

MollieO · 11/12/2009 21:20

Making soap and mincemeat. It really is a Victorian version of Kirstie's Homemade Christmas .

I remember it but only caught bits of it. Now I have ds I make more effort with these sorts of programmes. We've enjoyed watching the Coal House too that was on recently and covered part of the 2WW. Ds was fascinated at the thought of grandma being the same age as him when the 2WW started and that put it in perspective for me too.

yes my mum watched the coal house, i think i may have caught one show i remember her saying about a girl who couldn't use a sewing machine

MollieO · 11/12/2009 21:51

They got the women working in a factory using sewing machines.

Our dd's loved the original series,we have a farm and they like to see how their great grandparents would have done things. We have recorded tonight's episode.

I bought the book of the first series too.

Watched this last night.
I used to know Ruth way back when she was pregnant with her 1st dd....
Such a fab programme. It's way better than all that Victorian farming stuff Paul Heiney did, as well - none of the sentimentality and much more engaging.
