Oh I LOVE Andrew Marr.

In a previous incarnation I started a thread about him along the lines of ugly guys that are strangely attractive

said · 03/12/2009 00:05

Weeell, I used to like him (as a person) but since finding out he's very good friends with George Osborne I really can't take to him any more

nigelslaterfan · 03/12/2009 00:05

Fair enough, respect to you and your dreams!
But honestly, I can't concentrate on what he's saying with his lovely radio voice because I can't get over what his whole head looks like.

What amazes me is how if he were a woman he would never ever ever ever get filmed by anyone however clever he was!

But each to his own!

George Osborne?

REALLY????

(disappointed emoticon)

It defines my Sunday..dcs wake early and I allow C-beebies in bed.

Switch over at 9 to watch his programme.

Tootle around at 10am sadly indulging in The Archers whilst peeling spuds/carrote/parsnips for Sunday roast.

Am sad.Sorry.

MinkyFucker · 03/12/2009 00:09

he's out of control, so full of himself and up his own arse

nigelslaterfan · 03/12/2009 00:13

He's like marmite then!

His presentation style is a bit OTT with the fantastically over emphasised delivery like Paxman but slowed down a bit.

And he is full of himself.

Mavisenderby you have structure, I respect that, I wish I had that.

George Osbourne........ [heart sinking emoticon]

"Out of control?"

Does his huge misshapen head blow up then?

That would be interesting Sunday morning telly.

(Contemplates exploding Andrew Marr)

I might be over-egging the "very good friends" bit but here is the offending article that led to my disappointment. Love the last comment and [fear emoticon]

gingertoo · 03/12/2009 00:18

I LOVE Andrew Marr.
No really..
I know it's wrong

nigelslaterfan · 03/12/2009 00:19

Such love for the Marr Man.

EEk,after reading Saids article i have changed my mind.Thought he was an ugly but rather endearingin a quirky yet comedically pompous kind of way bloke only to realise he has dinner with the likes of Alan Clark (hopefully in more of a journalistic as opposed to friendly capacity).

He does like Jarvis Cocker though,so not all bad.LOL.

nigelslaterfan · 03/12/2009 13:06

oh I hate that trendy music thing they all claim in these articles, you know they've really got neil diamond and shirley bassey on there.

I agree he's clearly arslikhan the next Chancellor here but if journalists want to get in bed with the Tories in order to save the BBC from being destroyed by them - then Go Andy Go Kiss That Tory Butt!

I love him and his jug ears. We're watching his history of modern britain and I love the way he does all the voices and tries to make it all exciting with panting down staircases and into the street with a shaky camera man.

Georgimama · 03/12/2009 13:11

His Modern Britain TV series have both been brilliant. An even better historian than he is a journalist. I love him and his funny face.

I thought he was politically, a bit of a leftie. It is possible to be friends on a personal level with people whose poliics you don't agree with - look at Diane Abbot and Michael Portillo. They're turning into some sort of politically Trinnie and Susannah - you never see one on TV without the other.

Georgimama · 03/12/2009 13:12

mumblechum - did you see him last night dressed up as a member of the Home Guard? Fab.

mumblechum · 03/12/2009 13:20

Not yet, it's recorded.

nigelslaterfan · 03/12/2009 13:23

what is the relationship between portillo and Abbott, are they just old muckers?

Of course you can be mates, but there's being mates and there's sharing a room and a fag at Eton mates innit?

OP posts:
Skegness · 03/12/2009 13:34

His tv programme is ok in scope and content but I find him most irritating, esp when he does silly accents, which he seems to do a lot.

Agree with said that his choice of friends is most perturbing.

Georgimama · 03/12/2009 13:39

According to wiki here they are sharing a room and a fag at Eton type mates.

nigelslaterfan · 03/12/2009 13:51

good research!

He is OTT as a presenter.

I mean Andrew - Calm Down!

And why do some presenters have to present everything like Kirsty off Newsnight. All giggly and hysterical on the sofa because she's doing some lovely fluffy ARTS stuff.

OP posts:
extremelychocolateymilkroll · 03/12/2009 14:37

I agree that his presentation style is OTT. We always watch the Sunday morning programme but tape it and fast forward through his cringey intro and often the arts interviews. Don't feel he is a great interviewer, especially with the big political interviews. Misses out on obvious questions and usually doesn't press interviewers hard enough. Then he has a wild moment and asks Gordon Brown questions about rumours circulating on the internet about his medication. Not a patch on Andrew Neil or John Humphreys. I like him on Start the Week and think his history programme is very interesting if you can get over his OTT style. To confuse matters left and right more, Jonathan Aitken is godfather to Diane Abbott's son. I think it's quite common to have friends from across the political spectrum - unless you are Dennis Skinner or Gordon Brown. Dislike the fact that he is a fan of Lily Allen - he is old enough to have more sense! Portillo and Abbott have known each other since they were at school.

Georgimama · 03/12/2009 14:57

When you are an MP the people who are a threat to your promotion are the ones on your own side - they're your rivals, not the other lot - so it's unsurprising that very close friendships are common across parties.
