Dr Woo last night. Can anyone tell me when it stopped being a kids program please?

Now I know it's been more scary recently than back in the 70s but usually watchable for older DC. Last night scared the bejesus out of my boys - the oldest is 12! It really was quite unpleasant. Trailer for next week looks bad too. I am going to have to ban it in this house I think

Really reality? I misunderstood the trailer I think. I thought it was worse somehow. I had to sleep in DS#2's bed last night so that he and DS#1 could get to sleep

wish i'd seen it now! was always a little scary when i was little.

ds(8) didn't seem scared by it. though he is pretty obsessed.

TigerFeet · 16/11/2009 10:58

5yo dd1 was fine with it

me, otoh...

almost up there with blink

jeee · 16/11/2009 11:00

Doctor getting god complex, woman committing suicide - not very child friendly. Water spouting monsters - absolutely fine.

I was scared too. Also the zombies projectile-vomiting water reminded me a bit too much of having hyperemesis.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 16/11/2009 11:05

I didn't even realise she'd killed herself, lol, until i watched the dr who conf show. missed the gun. found the god complex a bit bonkers.

pollycazalet · 16/11/2009 11:06

My (nearly) 10 year old joined us in bed at 12.30 last night, he was so scared.

It was like Alien no?

TigerFeet · 16/11/2009 11:07

lol kathy [empathetic ]

the suicide bit passed dd1 by

Stayingsunnygirl · 16/11/2009 11:09

None of mine (youngest 12) were scared by last night's episode. I think Blink was the scariest of the lot, to be honest. After all, I'm not on a space station on Mars, but do see angel statues around the place.

lou33 · 16/11/2009 11:12

none of mine were bothered by it (youngest 8.5)

we all thought it was rather good, and are looking forward to the Christmas one

serenity · 16/11/2009 11:13

Mine were fine although DD watched from the safety of under my arm (she thought the water zombies were scary, but was more upset by me offering to turn it off) The suicide bit passed them by tbh.

They were very excited by the trailer.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/11/2009 11:15

Yup I agree with the people who say it wasnt as scary as blink.
I was still cowering behind the dog though!
DS is far too young to watch it and was tucked up in bed.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/11/2009 11:16

StayingSunny, I have yet to see one of those type of angel statues and I can honestly say I would probably weep if I did!

AitchTwoToTangOh · 16/11/2009 11:17

god, blink was brilliant wasn't it?
i had an advance copy and warned everyone on here about it scaring the bejeesus out of their kids. and of course sally sparrow's got oscar buzz now.

Stayingsunnygirl · 16/11/2009 11:24

ABF - I haven't seen any really close up - if I did, I don't think I'd weep, but I would probably wet myself!! My tearducts are clearly more toned than my pelvic floor.

Hassled · 16/11/2009 11:25

I have never seen anything scarier than Blink. Except maybe the "Mummeee, Mummeee" one.

DSs 2 & 3 (11 & 7) were both pretty damn scared, but then I let them watch a bit of Dr Who COnfidential which had cuddly Russell T telling us how much fun it was to be scared sometimes, so I think they both relaxed. Plus, they showed you how they got the water to come out of the mouths etc so it all got de-mystified.

Tidey · 16/11/2009 11:25

I don't think it's stopped being kid-friendly altogether, it's just that certain episodes are darker than others. And obviously since we're getting to a regeneration, it is going to be harder for some children to watch if they're on the more sensitive side. Maybe record them and watch in advance of letting them see it? Also it's RTD's big finale as the boss, so he's going to want to appeal to adults just as much as children and leave the show on a high, hence bringing back the Master and Donna. Again.

Hassled · 16/11/2009 11:26

sally sparrow's got oscar buzz ?? Really? What for?

An Education, hassled.

It was interesting in DWC seeing them going through various mock-ups of what the zombie crew members were going to look like, trying to come up with "scary-but-not-actually-going-to-traumatise-children". So they are definitely at least giving significant thought to younger viewers.

Tidey · 16/11/2009 11:33

I don't like watching DWC, it ruins the magic
