Did anyone else ball their eye's out through Desperate Midwives?

Did that mother-of-four make it look BLOODY AWFUL?

Didn't that birth-pool woman make it look bloody EASY?

That midwife put it just right for the pool woman

"That is natural birth"

I want a birth like that for no.2.

And yes the mother of 4 did make it look awful.

mmmm I got a bit tearey eyed for the last couple, so glad they have a happy bouncing bubba now.

i bawl my eyes out during the trailers - it's the sight of all those poor women in labour on their backs. i despair of the nhs.

I couldn't imagine how she felt whilst having her caesarean.

I balled all the way through it.

Why'd they break her waters at 5cm?! I had mine broken, but at 8 and the bag was bulging out past the baby's head.

She seemed to want to speed things up didn't she? I think it was her choice.

I do find it odd that they are all labouring on their backs.

I felt sorry for that poor dad who had to go out of the room while his twins were delivered!

mmm yes the back thing, I had dd at Derby, and dh had to step between me and the 'head' midwife, who wanted me to get back on the bed, before I hit her, as dh said he'd never seen me look at anyone in that way before, yikes....the pain eh! apparently they get a better trace on the babies, if your on your back......in the end they got me where they wanted me (on back, but only for the pushing stage) but I'd rather have given birth standing up, and next time will be more adamant that dh stands my ground for me

I'm kind of bummed I let the waters be broken. She may have been born w/a caul on her head. That's blessed. My dad was born with one on his head. My gran buried it in their garden.

I like the programme, it's probably cause it is my local hospital and it feels close to home but have not missed a programme yet....

That mum who had her 4th baby should know what to expect she acted as though this was her 1st time, i know its painful but she was just over the top

Didn't see it but I too cannot fathom why so many women are still lay back...when I was in labour with ds3 the only point at which I lay back was to be checked and it was pergatory - midwife was great and very speedy but boy was I glad to get back on the ball. Midwife suggested giving birth leaning over the back of the bed too (i.e. kneeling) and it was brilliant.

GdG - have noticed this as well - most on their backs in bed, monitoring, waters broken. Doesn't say alot for the m/w's - do they actually suggest the use of upright positions? which help labour & birth to be as efficient as possible.

kama - fair enough, but I think there's little doubt that 'labouring' lay in bed is the worst thing to do if you can help it.

I did with ds1 but was induced and had epidural. For the 2nd two I had nothing and it was deffo better being upright (and even leaning forward) during contractions.

id idnt want to walk around,squat roll on a ball etc.I liked to be on the bed..despite the midwife suggesting I moved!! I had 5 babies that way! I look at the other options on tv and think how nice it looks...but I guess I just like ben on my back!!!!

Had the same experience, GdG all 3 back-to-back. Ouch! Lying down to be monitored on admission to hospital was the most painful part of my labour with DS. I nearly poked the mw's eyes out to get upright again!

I was on my back for my 1st baby but this one I tried on all 4's, didn't really like it but there was no time to get in the correct position or back on to my back,......... My next baby i would like to have a water birth but if anything like my last two won't get the chance as they both had to be induced as my 1st was 3wks late and my 2nd 2wks late.

As long as you get to do what you want thats fine. Although sometimes the midwives have to intervene for yours and babies health. I know child birth is natural but lots can and does go wrong and without their help there would be more stillbirths
