This was a brilliant documentary - like all have already said the boys were brave and courageous.
The medical staff were brilliant - we never really get to hear about all the wounded do we?
I couldn't believe how many young men there were at the rehabiltiation centre all with amputatations.
What a waste of our countries men & women.

trixymalixy · 24/09/2009 17:26

This was so inspirational, what brave, determined lads.

McDreamy · 24/09/2009 18:13

I believe the wounded estimate is something like for every death we hear about there are 7 significantly wounded (ie lie changing)

Watched this in tears and full of admiration for these two boys.Bless them. Also the mum was incredible. What courage.

jcscot · 27/09/2009 09:09

I finally watched it last night and I can say that it was a great documentary. Mot sentimental or trite but a very honest portrayal of these two young men.

I recognised a couple of people but was very moved by the bravery shown. I thought the physio who talked about the type of people they treated at Headly Court as being particularly determined, fit and positive was right - the type of young man who faces up to those type of injuries with the courage and dignity shown desereves every respect.

I have not watched this programme yet but will do at some stage, I have a son who is serving in Afghanistan at the moment and that is the reason I can?t watch it just now, he has told me for every person who is killed 6 or 7 are blown up and loose limbs, he has lost friends and had friends blown up in the last 5 months out there, I can?t wait to he is home in November

jcscot · 29/09/2009 11:31

I can understand that, fin. My husband is out there too and mentioned the same statistic. He's due home at the end of Oct or the beg of Nov and I will be very relieved to see him safe and well.

fin54 · 29/09/2009 16:33

My son is also due home at this time, wonder if their in the same regiment ? going by your name I think they could be

VanillaPumpkin · 29/09/2009 16:38

I agree this programme was superb. Very honest, moving and thought provoking.
My DH is in the RAF and takes his trainees to visit Headley Court. It opens some eyes that is for sure.
Amazing amazing boys. And as someone said they are just boys, babies really .

VanillaPumpkin · 29/09/2009 16:40

Sorry, I meant to add to Fin54 and jcscot that you are in my thoughts and I wish your loved ones a happy safe homecoming in Nov.

jcscot · 29/09/2009 17:31

Fin, my husband isn't BW (I'm assuming that's the battalion you mean - based on your guess about my name and the fact they're out there right now and due to return in Nov/Dec) but we do have a close friend who's one of the company commanders. The Army is actually quite a small organisation and it's amazing how closely connected we all are.

I hope your son and his colleagues come home safe and sound.

fin54 · 30/09/2009 19:08

Oh sorry, that?s what I get for assuming and yes it is the BW my son is in. I hope the same for your husband and close friend in fact I hope we have no more sadness until they are all home but I?m sure that is too much to ask for while our troops are out there
