That has warmed the cockles. Really touching, what lovely families. After last weeks episode it was reassurring to see another family grab the opportunity.

hmc · 13/08/2009 22:03

I'm so glad that nobody has written anything cynical this week.

What a wonderful outcome and both lovely sincere families.

woodenchair · 13/08/2009 22:07

I think thet matched the families very well this week, with them having similar back grounds.

Really enjoyed this week.

Lizzylou · 13/08/2009 22:11

Lovely
Very heartwarming

tiredsville · 13/08/2009 22:18

Watching this programme I find it isn't so much the skint factor that is upsetting, but the fact that such wonderful kids with so much to offer are trapped indoors, unable to play and meet friends due to the shitty, crazy world which is outside there door.

5inthebed · 13/08/2009 22:21

Tonights episode was lovely. Both familys were lovely. I am so pleased that the "poor" dad got a job at the caravan park. Those children will have a greater life, free space to play in. So lovely!

I had to surpress a few tears as had company.

michaelashere · 13/08/2009 22:24

glassjam
do you mean frivilous like a laptop? I think their version of my laptop was camping gear! how wierd! wonderred if they got the tents for when they are evicted from their flat, so they can sleep in the park!!

nancy75 · 13/08/2009 22:28

actually watching this weeks show, and having watch both the other shows makes me even more unsure that bad editing was to blame last week.
michaelashere, this family paid off their rent arrears and bought school uniform before they bought camping stuff to benefit the whole family.

5inthebed · 13/08/2009 22:34

I thought the camping gear was a good idea. The laptop was to benefit one person, where as the camping gear was for everyone. The family last week already had a computer, so the laptop was not necessary.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 13/08/2009 22:43

First programme I've seen. I am so happy that the family got a job with accomadation. Something that will benefit them for the rest of their lives rather than a few lump sums of money which pays off the debt but then it all starts over again.

I thought it was very sad that the poor family were in a position where they're having to pay per hour for the TV. Then the mum couldn't afford gas to cook tea and put hot water on, the fridge was just about empty. I just feel for all the families still in this position.

GreatUncleBulgaria · 13/08/2009 23:00

Impressed with this weeks. Am so pleased that little Teddy will no longer have to play out on that concrete balcony but it doesn't half make me feel sad for the goodness knows how many children who grow up in the same kind of place.

hippipotamiHasLost55lbs · 13/08/2009 23:36

Absolutely fantastic - I loved this week's one
I don't think the camping gear can be compared to a laptop and webcam - for starters it would have cost a fraction of those and secondly it was so the whole family could go on holiday. Not really that frivolous if it gives them a way off the estate for a while

Sam was great but so were the other children. Both families were absolutely lovely. And I really really liked 'rich' family this week, could not warm to the rich family last week for some reason.

GrinnyPig · 13/08/2009 23:39

Both families were lovely in this programme. And no underlying advert for the rich family as there was last week. I know they own leisure parks, but not sure which ones.

I felt the two elder children from the poor family, who were old enough to understand their situation were very mature and I really hope they can go on to make a good life for themselves.

Michaela, the camping equipment was for a family holiday. That would benefit everyone. I wasn't completely outraged last week at your choice of buying a laptop, but was fairly speechless when you added a webcam to the trolley...

glasjam · 14/08/2009 01:15

Michaelashere - I didn't have the pleasure of watching last week's episode so if you thought that was a dig at you then you are mistaken. Am a bit at your comment about the camping gear being used for when they are evicted??! I think they bought it because they wanted a holiday but didn't want to take the p**s with the money that had been given them.

How did you feel watching tonight's programme? Do you feel you were misrepresented by the programme makers? By all accounts you have a lovely family but obviously came across to many viewers as having strange priorities.

drosophila · 14/08/2009 11:39

So what is poor. Seems to me there was a large flat screen TV, a PSP, a TV in the kid's bedroom a large home that looked pretty nice. Not overcrowded, everyone looks well fed. And all this with only one income!

So they can't play outside there are loads of places that have no outdoor space many of them expensive flats in London. London is great for parks though. Definition of poor needs to be rethought.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 14/08/2009 11:45

The TV was one of those where you don't pay for it upfront or not the full price, instead you pay £1 per hour that you watch it. So the people who have "sold" it to you make their money that way and it costs a fortune in the long run.

They were in 1k of rent arrears and would have been evicted if it wasn't for the help. The other stuff may have been bought when the dad had a much better paid job. He used to earn £800 a week till he had a bad fall and then had to take a job paying £200 a week.

madusa · 14/08/2009 15:46

the first episode and this one made me cry. (Last weeks one just left me very angry)

Both of the families in this one were lovely and the "poor" family did everything they could to better the lives of their children.

The children were again all very sweet and so nice to each despite having completely different backgrounds.

The "poor" family were so grateful for everything they were given and didn't ask or hint for anything (yes that is a dig).

This really was feel good tv as its best

cocolepew · 14/08/2009 17:28

I've just watched this, lovely children all round. So glad that they were able to get help.

drosophila · 14/08/2009 19:07

But you can get the old fashioned TVs in charity shops for a song (thanks to everyone upgrading) and had they been evicted the council would have rehoused them. I'm sure money management training would go a long way with all the families on this show.

Meanwhile there are families around where I live that are seriously overcrowded eg. next door to me there are 3 adults, 1 teenager and 2 young children in a 2 bed flat with a kitchen/diner.

CybilLiberty · 14/08/2009 19:27

I thought both families were lovely. The 'poor' family were so proud, and the children were just lovely, especially gorgeous Sam. I told my dd about him and she says she wants to get a paper round now. As she barely moves from her lap top/hair straighteners/ bed for days at a time, miracles do happen!

amijee · 15/08/2009 08:42

I agree it was moving and the kids were incredibly well adjusted but one question that seems to go ananswered - why do so many people with hardly any money smoke? It's such an expensive habit and if you are using coins for TV and gas it seems crazy when a 20 per day habit can cost you over 35 quid a week!
