how thoroughly depressing. the nhs is surely fighting a losing battle. again its people wanting the easy way out of obesity, it made me quite angry.

I did.

Was really pleased with the two girls who started making an effort and were losing weight.

another depressing episode! but well done too to the one's that 'got' it.

that poor girl who was eating a stir fry, her family were eating subways! very supportive of them .

and stuffing kfc into that poor baby

Notalone · 22/04/2009 09:31

I think Holly was lovely - she really understood why she had to lose weight and put her heart and soul into it. The other two really annoyed me - especially the blonde girl when she said that it was the NHS's fault she was so big because they would not give her a gastric band. She seemed to want a quick fix solution with no effort from her at all. At least she seemed to change towards the end of the programme.

And totally unrelated but that dietician was lovely and had the most gorgeous arms and bum

Gillyan · 22/04/2009 11:08

That Holly was a lovelt girly and I loved her bru,,y accent too. That woman with the glasses the one that had the band - what a total twat. She just had no intention of helping herself and blamed anyone and everything for her being morbidly obese. The state of both her and her husband and god knows what that poor child will grow up to be like.

It makes me really angry!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 22/04/2009 11:12

Holly was great. She was good-humoured and self-aware. She was lucky though - she had a thin mum who was able to teach her to cook and pay for a personal trainer. And I was glad she split up with the twattish boyfriend!
It was interesting though to see that of the three, the one who got the gastric band was the one who had the obese partner. I wonder if having obesity as the norm in the family makes it much harder to lose weight conventionally.
So sad to think her son will grow up thinking obesity and diet of junk is normal....

those poor children. Child abuse.

ProfYaffle · 22/04/2009 13:26

I was rather gobsmacked at that surgeon, picking at his tiny tin of mackerel while pontificating about beige food - he had a point about some of it but not sure why he had a problem with rice, pasta and potatoes.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 22/04/2009 13:29

Yes I felt v sorry for the woman (nurse?) who had to sit in the same room as him to have her lunch and was being told off for having crisps.

ProfYaffle · 22/04/2009 13:32

Yes, so did I. He came across as a bit loopy, think he has food issues of his own tbh.

ProfYaffle · 22/04/2009 13:32

Actually I thought he was eating cat food at first glance!

Probably fitting gastric bands day after day would give you food issues.
I did think his job must be incredibly boring. You would have to be quite odd to want to do that, I would have thought.

MakemineaGandT · 22/04/2009 13:38

I watched it too and also felt a bit shocked at the surgeon's dietary advice - I hope no-one thinks it's healthy to have only a can of tuna for lunch - very odd. There is nothing wrong with carbohydrates - preferably unprocessed ones (wholemeal bread, brown rice etc) - eaten alongside protein, veg etc.

I was so frustrated with the laziness and stupidity displayed by most of the patients. Holly was great though - hope she's kept it up

MakemineaGandT · 22/04/2009 13:39

yes I thought it must be a dull job - ok he's trained for years to become a surgeon, but then he's fitting gastric bands all day every day. It must be very boring

Gillyan · 22/04/2009 13:50

Oh yeah, what was that surgeon like! very high and mighty and quite cocky but I suppose a lot of surgeons can be like that! A can of tuna for lunch??? Yes maybe with a load of sweetcorn mayo and huge salad..yes.

I was shocked she didn't stick to the diet 2 weeks prior to the op. She didn't seem the sharpest knife in the drawer tbh.

candyfluff · 22/04/2009 14:36

didnt like the surgeon ,gesturing to a large woman and saying thats one of my patients ,he might aswell of should fatty bumbum down the corridoor
good for those who did it with diet and exercise.
