i know what you mean. It is comforting in some strange way, like the vicar of dibley without the jokes.

Nidsnay · 09/04/2009 17:35

I watched both episodes in a "so bad, it's good" kind of way. Thought I was going to dig out my rubber brick to throw at the tv though - it's an absolutely infuriating programme with little or no logic. Will have to watch to the end just to see what happens with crazy Layla and whether the Neil Pearson character begs Sarah Lancashire for forgiveness, only to find she's shacked up with the curate!

Starbear · 09/04/2009 20:51

What is the long haired curates name? I think he is lovely. I can go to sleep dream I'll have him in The Graduate sort of way. Loved the fact they made him look like a fantasy Jesus. I like it but it could do better> Love Clive Rowe, is that his real voice wow I'll look out for him in future.

Bryan Dick is Jake the Trendy Curate.

Thank you

Just watched the 3rd ep and was wondering if anyone else is as frustrated with it as I am. There's a good show in there somewhere just trying get out. But the panto style villains are so over the top its unbelievable.

Lilymaid · 14/04/2009 22:41

Are you sure there's a good show trying to get out? I have only watched the 3rd episode - and not all of that - and I thought it was about on a par with Neighbours. As for the duet from the Creation - the lip sync for the soprano was hopeless.

wintera · 14/04/2009 23:33

Yes the lip sync was hopeless I agree. The first episode wasn't too bad really. But as the weeks have gone on its got worse. The characters are so stereotypical its almost offensive!

Katisha · 15/04/2009 14:57

Wintera I entirely agree about the panto villains. I would expect more subtle characterisation than this on a children's show...

Actually I agree about the synching as well.
And when they were doing the song as the bride walked into the church it patently wasn't even the right acoustic - sounded totally like a studio recording.

wintera · 15/04/2009 19:55

Katisha - I know they are awful aren't they? The Husband and Wife are so Panto like I feel like shouting "They're behind you!!!!" Subtle as a sledgehammer!!

sockmonkey · 16/04/2009 09:41

I quite like it

ShrinkingViolet · 22/04/2009 11:58

anyone still watching this? I'm reall enjoying it (so much so that I stayed up last night till it came on iPlayer ).
So, are Jake and Leila brother and sister, or were they seeing each other, do you reckon?

wintera · 22/04/2009 20:35

I think the twist will be that they are brother and sister. It keeps making it look like they were a couple but I think its a red herring and she will turn out to be his sister. Thought the episode last night was better. I hope we get more back story to that holier than thou couple, then they won't be so pantomime like and cartoony!

PolkSaladLucie · 23/04/2009 11:03

It just seems a bit of a vehicle for the young bloke to sing - who is he, anyway?

Nidsnay · 24/04/2009 21:13

Do you mean the Kyle character? He's Richard Fleeshman - used to be in Corrie and then went on Soapstar Superstar or somesuch and tried to start a pop career.

His dad in real life, fact fans, is the bearded half of the God-bothering nasty couple in All the Small Things. His mum is the actress Sue Jenkins who was Gloria in Corrie and then Jackie Corkhill in Brookie, whose on-screen brother-in-law was Billy Corkhill (John McArdle), also appearing in ATST as the aging hippy pony-tailed chap.

God, I'm sad.

I just watched episode 1 - thinking ooooh it was written by the Cutting It woman so it'll be good. The review in the paper summed it up- it doesn't know if it wants to be Jam and jerusalem or Last Choir standing...but it's a bit shit anyway.
I'd rather watch Heartbeat.

Raahh · 11/05/2009 20:41

I know pretty much everyone gave up on this, but i got into it a bit and finally got round to watching the final episode today.

To add to the general ridiculousness of it, the competition final was advertised on the posters as being april 9th (was filmed at the royal exchange , manchester, very recognisable).

Also recognisable was the fact it was filmed in december- as the german Christmas markets were in the background in St.Ann's square.

It made me smile, anyway
