Im watching this now..............How bad was the dubbing of the Sopranos voice? Sarah Alexander surely didnt sing that??

OP posts:
MummyElk · 31/03/2009 21:19

completely agree - i thought that too, even when sarah lancashire did her bit?? or am i too cynical?.... they can't be good at everything!!
groan...still...i had complaints about mistresses too...

mum2samandalex · 31/03/2009 21:23

seems a bit of a weird choice of drama to replace mistresses with

MummyElk · 31/03/2009 21:40

i'm about 6 minutes behind....sky+ etc.....utterly appalling bit of dubbing from SA a minute ago...lips not even synching!!! why didn't they either find someone who could sing....or make her less of a singer????? weird.
and agree, odd replacement.
and is the daughter billy piper's sister?!

Tillyboo · 31/03/2009 22:07

I've really enjoyed this. The hubby is a twonk and will get his come uppance - he's ditched his lovely talented wife for a bunny boiling lunatic.

Richard Fleeshman has a beautiful voice.

UnquietDad · 31/03/2009 22:21

Never mind the dubbing, the dialogue was excruciating!

"You know what kind of person I am. I am going to stand here and tell you for the benefit of the stupid viewers. By the way, did you know my son is autistic? Could we have telegraphed this a bit less subtly, do you think?"

Hot boots on Sarah, though. Niiiiice.

2shoes · 31/03/2009 22:28

we gave it atry
omg it is awful
(hello UQD)

mum2samandalex · 31/03/2009 22:36

i also wondered whether she was related to billie too. Found it pretty crap to be honest

Pwsimerimew · 31/03/2009 22:38

Oh. I cried when they sbat on the son.

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 22:38

dreadful ! I 've always disliked Neil Pearson... I do like Richard Fleeshman though - lovely voice. How the hell can they spin this story out - it was almost like a one off drama.

MrsMattie · 31/03/2009 22:41

That was shit, wasn't it? It was just a kind of fluffy, Sunday night old bint's programme dressed up as primetime drama. Grrr. I feel cheated out of an hour of my life.

mooseloose · 31/03/2009 22:43

awful - I wanted off back on computer after ten mins. I was hoping it would be a replacement fix for misstresses. Clearly not!

mooseloose · 31/03/2009 22:44

not wanted - wandered......

puffling · 01/04/2009 00:18

We watched for about 5 mins. What an abomination.

fatjac · 01/04/2009 09:47

I liked it

Tillyboo · 01/04/2009 15:12

Why was it so bad ? I enjoyed it but then I haven't watched mistresses so I don't feel cheated out of another drama.

I'm intrigued.

I agree that the singing for blondey whatsername was poor in terms of the big voice not matching her tiny frame but Sarah Lancashire has got a lovely voice and so had Richard Fleeshman.

I found the sudden change in the husbands behaviour shocking and made me feel like I wanted to punch him as he was so cruel to his wife. But, it can happen like that. It's just happened to a friend of a friend. Boom, just like that .. and he blamed her for him wanting to go off and bonk a woman who suddenly turned his head AND then wanted her to wait whilst he got it out of his system because he still loved her.

wasabipeanut · 01/04/2009 15:22

I quite liked it although it did smack of "oooh all the small things" would make a good title now we need to write a script around it."

Agree some of the dialogue was a bit poor and I couldn't quite see where they were going to get another 5 episodes from.

Wasn't Neil Pearsons character a cock though?

UnquietDad · 01/04/2009 15:44

It smacked of having been written about 7 years ago. A guy of about 18-19 being obsessed with Blink-182 just didn't ring true.

it's pretty rubbish isn't it? this is why I don't watch british drama - it's shit compared to the sheer quality of US drama.

FfreckleFface · 01/04/2009 19:53

I liked it. I think Sarah Lancashire is great, and I really felt for her character when she saw nasty husband man with his arm around Sarah Alexander.

But I am notoriously easy to please.

UnquietDad · 01/04/2009 23:49

It was the dialogue that creaked for me. Sarah Lancashire, on at least three separate occasions, told the audience what "kind of person" she was, which is a personal bugbear of mine.

Add to that the painfully PC button-pushing choir. Ooh, look, a person of restricted growth! And ooh, a man with learning difficulties who also happens to be black! And the son's autistic! And a salt-of-the-earth working-class ageing-rocker Scouser with a ponytail, played by Billy Corkhill! All we need is a ginger person and a that's full points! I can hardly contain myself! Fan me with a damp "Guardian", someone!!

They also seemed to go painfully slowly in some places and miss out huge chunks of narrative in others (didn't Neil Pearson and Sarah Alexander get awfully chummy awfully quickly?).

MargaretMountford · 02/04/2009 13:20

what UqD just said is spot on

UnquietDad · 02/04/2009 15:24
