nickschick · 09/03/2009 11:38

yes -verbally.......

Galava · 09/03/2009 11:40

TMI overload from that woman !

Ivykaty44 · 09/03/2009 11:40

Lots suffer from it, thought perhaps she was trying to help sufferers

AnyFucker · 09/03/2009 11:52

I like her

what is wrong with trying to raise awareness about a very common condition?

yes, she has admitted to being incontinent after the birth of the first of her kids

She was also on Women's hr today too. Good to raise awareness about it I think; you do need someone who can generate a bit of press after all. Also good to know there is more than just pelvic floor exercises out there to help if needed.

mindalina · 09/03/2009 11:59

Good for her. I should think quite a few people will watch it and feel quietly relieved that they're not the only ones.

georgiemum · 09/03/2009 12:00

She said she put on 5 stones during her last pregnancy. That sounds like an awful lot.

OrmIrian · 09/03/2009 12:00

But the odd thing was that she was only incontinent for a few months I think. Not that uncommon after a baby. Good for her for being honest but not going to help those poor women with ongoing problems who don't manage to get over it with a few more exercise.

AnyFucker · 09/03/2009 12:03

I am not sure if her problem only lasted a few months

there was a thread on here a few days ago about the use of pantyliners, and apparently when she was on Big Brother she referred to the fact that she would soon run out of pantyliners if she wasn't evicted......

she got help too and I think that can only be positive reinforcemnt for women who feel too embarassed to see their doctor

good on her for coming forward

FAQinglovely · 09/03/2009 12:09

georgimum - 5 stone is an awful lot - I put on 5 stone with my first pg - I went from 7 stone to 12 stone. - looked and felt like a flipping whale.

Hi I have been doing the incontinence campaign with Ulrika Johnson. I am a mother of 2 small children and after a terrible first birth was left with severe incontinence. I tried all forms of treatment but finally had to have a bladder repair, pelvic floor repair and hysterectomy. This is a real issue for real women, 33% over 30 have this. ANYTHING that anyone does to raise awareness is important. I think she should be applauded as it is not an easy issue to raise. Advice: do your pelvic floor exercises and don't assume it won't happen to you, I was very fit and running marathons , doing yoga the year before my daughter was born!

bruxeur · 11/03/2009 13:12

What's a real woman?

2ndtimeround · 11/03/2009 19:42

I really hope that is not a facetious remark bruxeur. It is a turn of phrase and about an issue that I feel very passionately about. My point is that can affect anyone , 1 in 3 women over 30, which is pretty high odds. Having lived the nightmare myself I feel strongly that women realise that childbirth isn't all birthing pools and organic weaning, this is the reality, like it or not. I just hope you don't ever have to experience this. (That's empathy...you may not be familiar with that concept either.)

i remember noting that pantyliner phrase on bb

she did however state that it would be a 'miracle' to carry 4 babies without suffering urinary incontinence which raised my eyebrow

2ndtimeround · 15/03/2009 13:52

My my bruxeur. I am the one putting myself out in the public domain to raise awareness of this condition. I have met such lovely women as a result of this, people have come up to me at my place of work to share their experiences, another young mum spoke to me last night whilst I was out with friends. These are women who have never talked about this before and are now brave enough to ask about it or share their horrid experiences. I am not sure what your issue is...maybe you have other childbirth/motherhood problems, which I am sorry about. It is also very unpleasant for you to use terms such as 'leak oil'...what does that mean? Urinary or even faecal incontinence is not something to be trivialised.
I don't work in PR so I use whatever language I can that helps get this issue out there. You may feel that one word diminishes what I am saying but at least I am out there raising awareness of women's issues, whilst working damn hard and raising two small children. And what are you doing? Bitching and belittling people on a website....

elsiepiddock · 16/03/2009 20:16

Good for Ulrika, I say, for bringing this matter to the fore.

In this day and age when we know just about everything there is to know and conception, pregnancy and childbirth - the aftermath is still a bit of a wilderness, information wise. I read up on everyhting to the point of being a complete pregnancy/childbirth bore, but I was totally unprepared for the trauma on my bladder/bowel.

I think I am relatively lucky that I don't seem to have any permanent problems with continence - but I know at least 6 women who do (or who admit to it!).

(And I can't get on the trampoline before emptying my bladder!!)
