Did anyone feel that talking about leaving memorie boxes for children for after your death and actually how to make them was mildly offensive, bearing in mind jades situation?

how was it offensive?

Fimbo · 16/02/2009 13:58

I didn't see the prog, but I think memory boxes are a good idea.

hobhey · 16/02/2009 14:00

well it felt a bit blue peter ish as if we will tell jade how to do it, just made me feel a bit uncomfortable dont know why really its very sad

sorry i should have explained myself better, its not the memory box that offeneded me just the talk of this is how you should do it, bit weird having to think of that

AnyFucker · 16/02/2009 14:04

yes, it is sad

I am sure Jade has her own ideas of what she can do for her sons, she seems a very focussed and determined young lady

bronze · 16/02/2009 14:05

Was Jade on the program? Or was there a 1 minute slot about her? If not then no I don't because to be frank there are people in Jades situation allt he time and knowing how to make a memory box I think could be a very useful thing.

expatinscotland · 16/02/2009 14:06

i don't see how this is offensive?

if anything jade's handling of her own situation will help people be more open about their lives, including the end of their lives. [sad[

bronze · 16/02/2009 14:07

*10 minute

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 14:07

Highly insensitive imo

SOLOveMeTenderLoveMeDo · 16/02/2009 14:10

There was a program/series last year about terminally ill women(with cancer)and there were lots of beautiful memory boxes and quilts and all sorts being lovingly made. I think they are a great idea and I would do something if I was in that situation. They are things to be treasured by children that wont have very much time to really know their mum/dad.
Didn't see This Morning this morning though.

AnyFucker · 16/02/2009 14:13

but why insensitive vt ?

do you mean to Jade herself?

in that case, I would imagine a small fry, inocuous piece on GMTV is nothing compared to the shit she is undergoing in other sections of the media eg. facebook sites holding lotteries on the day she will die

Lilyloo · 16/02/2009 14:15

Anyfucker what sort of weirdos do that ? Its sick!

AnyFucker · 16/02/2009 14:16

I know lilyloo, sad but true

VinegarTits · 16/02/2009 14:17

Because like you said AF, i am sure jade has her own ideas of what she will do for her dc, and she doesnt need reminding that she will die and leave her children motherless, they could have been more positive and suggeted things jade could do with her dc now, while she is alive

Very insenitive of TM to assume she is not already making memories for her dc

SOLOveMeTenderLoveMeDo · 16/02/2009 14:18

OMG! that's disgusting!
I don't like JG, but I wouldn't wish anyone to go through what she is and I think she is a very brave young woman. People holding lotteries on her date of death. It should not be allowed. Do facebook realise this is going on?

SOLOveMeTenderLoveMeDo · 16/02/2009 14:24

But as has already been said...JG is not the only woman going through this and it can be helpful to lots of people. Not everyone thinks of these things and it can give them something else to focus on.

AnyFucker · 16/02/2009 14:37

fair enough vt, perhaps a bit patronisng then?

although, tbh, Jade is putting it "out there" isn't she, with the photo shoots, wedding dress paid for by Mohammed Al Fayed, constant "snippets" from her friend Max Clifford etc etc

don't get me wrong, I am not knocking her for this, but, like I said, a harmless little piece on GMTV is hardly going to "remind" her any further is it?

CuriousSquid · 16/02/2009 14:58

It's not just about Jade now though - she has said thru Max Clifford that she wants to make people aware. One of the points made on This Morning was that if YOU were in the situation what could YOU do for your children seeing as how the nation isn't interested in making a reality show of everyone. One of the suggestions was a memory box so they had someone on who supplies memory boxes.

A good idea imo

Fimbo · 17/02/2009 10:40

I see the latest is that she is getting married to Jack on Sunday.

lottiejenkins · 17/02/2009 17:55

Winstons Wish did the programme on women dieing last year....it was so sad....they also sell memory boxes. They really are the most amazing charity. I hope Jade is aware of them, im sure someone has told her. I am having my 40th birthday in April, im not having presents but am asking for donations to be spilt between WW and the school for the deaf that my son attends.

georgiemum · 17/02/2009 18:01

I think it's a good idea.

My father had a terminal illness and took 18 months to die - he didn't do anything like this. Mum died suddenly and didn't have a chance - unfortunately she was very much the 'keeper of the family stories/traditions/skeletons' so most family get togethers end in 'Mum would have known that!'
