but: about an hour ago, I sat down with a cup of tea, and put the tv on. The Eastenders omnibus was on, and since everything else looked even worse, I watched that.

DD, 8mo, was sitting on my knee, playing with her toys.

Against my better judgement, I became quite engrossed with some kind of 'girls' night out' storyline, whereby one called Chell (or Shirl, I couldn't make it out), and another called Eve (I think), are out clubbing, ostensibly, it would seem, to help Eve, who is a larger lady, to get some confidence.

Actually, come to think of it, probably everyone knows the plotline... (I never watch Eastenders, so this is all new to me...).

So, cut to the chase: they argue, quite tearfully, in the ladies' loo.

At this point, I hear a little whimpering, and realise that my DD has begun watching too (toys abandoned) and is now tearful and crying at the tragic scene unfolding in the loos on telly. Clearly, seeing the ladies shouting at each other was too much for her.

So, who said that Eastenders wasn't great drama?

The larger lady is actually called Heather, but I can understand that in the East End accent it sounds like EVE! The other woman calls her 'ev' short for Ever!

Ahhh - Heather! I see! I thought it was Eve (pronounced Evah) short for Evelyn, or something... Durrrrr...

Ok - so you watch the show, right? Tell me, as I had to take my sobbing DD out of the living-room, and away from the trauma : did the man who was actually chatting her up come back? Or was her chance gone forever?? I am strangely interested!
