is one topic in The Big Question this morning on bbc 1 along with

"Should BNP membership be banned for teachers and clergy?" (me: yes)

Oh absolutely. Let's all stop having children and let the species die out.

Is there any MN topic this doesn't stray into? I can't hide every topic!

To the first question - what about fathers? and why does being a good mother equate to being a submissive, unequal, housewife?

Question 2 - as a human being I have no desire to be a member of teh bnp but as a teacher it is frankly none of your business what political group I belong to and how dare anyone suggest I be banned from having my human right to my political beliefs.

I find the emphasis on women in the question unnaceptable. Some parents may be selfish but I dont think that more parents are. I think generally we are less selfish. If you think about the time and attention we give children now compared to when we were children it is so much more. My family situation was not paticularly nice so maybe this is an extreme example but my parents had very little interaction with me, they fed and clothed me but that was about it.Families are much more child focessed than me. I am a selfish person tbh, although I think I am quite a good mother but could be a better mother if I was less selfish. But even I am not soo selfiah to be a mother.

I dont think being a member of the clergy is ccompatible with being a member of the BNP. If I found out my priest was a member of the BNP I would find another church and be complaining . The same for teachers as well.

foxytocin · 08/02/2009 09:39

I dunno. the main reason why I say 'yes' (teacher too) is because the BNP have some very discriminatory ideas towards disabilities which jar heavily with the idea that schools should address the needs of all children.

Never mind the wider social implications of such discriminatory idea of theirs.

The BNP does not publicise this part of their manifesto as much as the race one. It is kinda like the Nazis spewed hate about the Jews while they quietly exterminated the disabled.

The BNP are vile.

BUT

In this country we are supposed to have freedom of speech. And freedom of religion. And freedom of political choice.

And on the good side, that allows us to complain about high taxes without being thrown into jail, it allows us to go to church, go to synagogue, or go nowhere at all, and it allows us to vote liberal while all around us vote tory.

On the other side of the coin, it allows people to be active members of the bnp as long as their activities do not become criminal.

I would rather have both sides of the coin than no coin.

Some women, I am sure are, too selfish. But I am sure that has been the same sime time began. To me the question more infers that any choice a woman makes that doesnt not involve her family and children is purely self. All hail the robot mum, to serve and obey. We are all just a little bit more visible now, there fore easier to pick extreme 'women' and vilify. Some children I think are just to selfish to be good children. There have always been hoards of men too selfish to be good husbands so I dont think anyone would have batted an eyelid about that question.

magicfarawaytree · 08/02/2009 09:47

, i am sure,
