I've been watching crimewatch for years in the hope I could help get some 'baddie' locked up.
But i never recognise anyone.
And the programme gives me the willies a bit.

My Dad was interviewed by the police once because he was the spitting image of someone involved in a post office robbery!!!!!

I recognised someone last month but thought I was probably imagining it. However, when I checked the website for more information it actually said that he was known in the area that i live!!

NorbertDentressangle · 27/01/2009 21:52

I once recognised someone on Police, Camera, Idiot Action.

It was a young man who, as a teenager, was in a children's home that I worked in. He hadn't changed a bit and was obviously still getting into trouble.

scrooged · 27/01/2009 21:53

I recognised someone when I was 14. I told the teacher but he didn't do anything. I told my mum but she did nothing either.

zanz1bar · 27/01/2009 21:56

Waxonwaxoffdanielsan · 27/01/2009 21:59

oh good one zanz1bar.
i don't think i know enough dodgy people.
which is probably a good thing i suppose.

Not quite the same, but wasn't too pleased to see the father of one of dd's friends on the front page of the local paper, having just been jailed for burglary.

Heated · 27/01/2009 22:04

Dh recognised someone, not on Crimewatch, but on a regional wanted appeal hosted by ? Taylor (forgotten his name, used to be on ITV, wore glasses)

Dh said, "I wondered where he was, shame, he's one of the nicer ones" (dh a teacher)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/01/2009 22:08

I can't watch it I'm afraid, I did once and was convinced that an attacker was the same as someone who attacked me years before. I did phone the police and then vowed never to watch it again.

hifi · 27/01/2009 22:28

i thought it was shocking what those hooligans did to that police officer. it really brought home to me hes probably someones dh or dad.

slightly off subject has kirsty young got a wig on? looks like it to me. wonder if shes been ill?

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 27/01/2009 22:40

DH asked me why I watch it, as I huff and puff about the crimes committed. "You know, Margo, it's called Crimewatch, it means there is a 100% possibility that you will see stories about crime"

I'm with you Wax on Wax off. I want to be responsible for getting at least one of the criminals off the streets.

Actually, my Grandfather appeared on the Crimewatch credits for a while. I've searched YouTube and I can't find any record of the one he was on .

Yes at Uni a guy from our halls of residence who was creepy as hell came up as a photofit of a local rapist......we called the crime number and then never heard anything save that he was around for exams so who knows ?!

fryalot · 28/01/2009 18:27

A few years ago there was a news story about a bloke who recognised himself on crimewatch and did a silly dance in front of the telly so his girlfriend wouldn't see it...

well... that bloke... the one who did the dancing... at the same time that he was performing armed robberies on building societies... was putting up dd1's new bed for us!

I was

but sniggered at the dancing thing...

Don't watch crimewatch so I didn't see him on it at the time, but the dancing thing was newsworthy enough that I saw it retrospectively. Had I seen it I would have recognised him, and rang up

moondog · 28/01/2009 21:16

lmao
How did the silly dance go and did he do a good job of the bed?

I reported someone I knew once, he was a very mixed up but sweet lad when I knew him but had obviously gone a bit ill and violent

felt terrible reporting him.

fryalot · 28/01/2009 21:24

moondog - the dance was all kind of arms and legs.

And the bed was so sturdy we had to leave it there when we moved coz we couldn't take it down again!

Waxonwaxoffdanielsan · 28/01/2009 21:27

when i watch it i try to rack my brain for all the dodgy people i might have known or guess who from school is likely to have gone off the rails.
it's not right is it.

My friend did work experience at the local Police station and they had a board with all the local criminals on, they asked if she recognised anyone and she said, no, but actually she said to us that there were loads of people we all knew on there!

Not re: Crimewatch because I can't watch it and have to go and hide in another room when dp has it on BUT it is the most horrible feeling imaginable when you learn that an ex-pupil has done something dreadful and been imprisoned. Has happened a few times and it always makes me cry, especially if they were a boy (not heard re any girls) who COULD have done okay, despite background, impoverishment of situation etc etc.
