TOO FAT TO TODDLE - ITV 2 TUESDAY NIGHT 9PM

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2009 16:16

follows 4 famillies and their over weight children who are under 5

children learn their eating habbits from their parents and eating crap/fatty foods and no/lack of exercise = fat children

I think this is abuse!!

saw a clip and def waddling rather than toddling

But, blondes, (still giggling over ready, steady, cock!) even if you have lots of cream and oil in your food you don't have to pile it on the plate. I hate that sle-congratulatory 'French women don't get fat' book, but it's true that traditional French food often has lots of cream and yummy olive oil.

Who was it that mentioned portions? Spot on!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2009 17:38

omg i wrote cock

now often i mention willy/cocks in relationships but never on tv section

gillian - the so called dr, but isnt a real doctor diet- is hard to follow and expensive

think more help is def needed to help explain cooking/nutrition etc to famillies

jamie olivers tv prog was good,he did show how to cook basic meals and for the proce of a takeaway, but think most of his famillies couldnt be arsed to cook

plus if veg and fruit were on offer/bogof etc as they do to crisps.choclate, cakes/biscuits etc then more would buy

have to say though that JO doesnt need to say fuck so much

sure he would love daisy boo to come out with can i have a fucking apple dad

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2009 23:36

honestly you lot

i hadnt seen this before, and i did feel sorry for the kids

2 of the mums were fat,one slightly over weight and one slim

hopefully they learnt about healthy eating, and in 6 weeks they did lose weight,so hopefully in 6/12mths they will be back to normal weight

the greek/turkish hubby was useless, and completly underminding the mum

Ah but littleboyblue I would NEVER agree that cheese and crisps give a child "everything they need" am a completely non-crazy HV..

Anniek · 14/01/2009 08:41

Bit surprised by the negativity here. They quite clearly stated that all parents had been to several doctors, so called specialists, and it hadn't helped. So they volunteer to be filmed in exchange for receiving treatment worth thousands of pounds for free. I think I would do it for my child, if as with these parents they genuinely didn't understand why their kids were overweight.

Remember it's always easier to "see" from the outside, such "obvious" things as don't feed them crap, don't feed them so much, but as someone who needs to lose weight myself, I know eating the chocolate biscuits after my dinner, after I've already had a chocolate bar for dessert, is why I'm not losing weight, but maybe a "shock" would give me the proper motivation to stop eating the crap!

I applaud the parents who learnt the lesson, and hope they can carry it on.

P.S Neither my parents or my Son are in anyway overweight.

BalloonSlayer · 14/01/2009 09:38

I found it gave me a few lessons actually. Although my three are all as skinny as rakes the youngest two don't eat well.

There are reasons (trans: excuses) for this - they both had to be treated as if dairy/egg allergic for the first year of their lives because their older brother is. This made their palate - I think - rather limited. I am trying to get DS2 to have dairy now and he doesn't want to know.

But being dairy free should have made them eat more healthily, really. Any road up, it made me see that just because you're not fat, it doesn't mean you are eating how you should. I am fairly skinny myself and I eat a crap diet.

So some improvement in the BalloonSlayer household is now being striven for.

KewcumbersRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 14/01/2009 09:44

didn't see the progrmame but I am v v overweight and DS isn;t. I do want to feed him (as someone said its a very primal need to nourish your child) but I really resist and am very mean because although I will allow him to have chocolate, crisps apple juice etc in other peoples houses, we don't have them at home and he accepts that (mostly!).

Also make sure he gets plenty of exercise.

My mum still has a tendancy to give him crap and use food as a treat which I try to avoid, but at least its only once or twice a week and occasionally I put my foot down.

wideratthehips · 14/01/2009 10:00

i watched this last night and found it quite upsetting...not sure i can put it into words.
i feel really sorry for five year olds who are distressed and call themselves fat and are bullied at school because of it.

i have two children....ds1,4.5 who is extremely skinny, and ds2 who is 23mths and would be classed as overweight/obese but is very tall and of a sturdy stature. dh and i are quite tall and of normal weight.

we don't over feed him and he doesn't eat junk foods....i guess the only processed food he eats is sausages.....could he be more active? well he doesn't stop moving!

in this program there seemed to be a lot of salad type food....my children love cucumber/tomatoes/carrots etc but what five yr old is going to eat a plate of salad leaves?

compo · 14/01/2009 10:13

'the greek/turkish hubby was useless, and completly underminding the mum '

but his children werent' even overweight imo
one of them was just a chubby toddler
I was really sad when the little girl cried that she didn't want to be overweight

littleboyblue · 14/01/2009 11:13

JollyPirate Glad to hear there's at least one non-crazy one out there somewhere then

We ended up watching this, was on earlier than I thought. It was quite upsetting in parts and tbh, although my ds isn't anywhere near overweight (I don'tr think but haven't had him weighed in ages), watching that didmake me think maybe I give ds portions that are a little too big for him........He eats most of what's infront of him, I suposse the way I thought of it is that I'd rather him leave something than not have enough iyswim? Once he starts throwing food out of high chair, I just take it away, so there's no pressure on him, he can eat as little or as much as he likes, maybe I should re-think it though.

BalloonSlayer · 14/01/2009 11:13

I thought those children were not overweight either, Compo. I was when they were labelled obese.

I did wonder what was going on with the parents though. It seemed to be about more than just food to me . . . very odd. Almost as if the father was lavishing love on the little girl and the mother was saying he was making her fat because she was jealous. I dunno...

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/01/2009 13:55

littleboyboy - sorry i watched it on itv2+1 (9pm)

compo - agree those children werent fat, he was just a chubby toddler, but their daughter was a bit podgy, and guess you have to try and stop podgyness turning into fat

least these parents were trying to do something for their children

be nice to see a follow up in 6mths time
