I love Nigella. I find watching food shows really relaxing (the ones I watch).
Quite like watching The Barefoot Contessa

PortAndStilton · 15/12/2008 21:35

Bother. I forgot. I'll try iPlayer...

joshandjamie · 16/12/2008 20:30

jenk - I've posted this on the recipes board but you don't happen to remember what she did with the onion and pomegranate salad that she put on top of the lamb do you? I've found the lamb recipe on line but can't find the onion/pom bit and really want it.

twinsetiscrapatflouncing · 16/12/2008 20:32

I am just having a cup of tea before doing her mincemeat.

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 20:53

joshandjamie-I think she just soaked the raw sliced red onion in the pomegranate juice and then drained it and put on top of the tagine with some of the pomegranate jewels as Nigella calls them .

expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 21:08

i have some Xmas money left from my ILs.

i'm headed to the mall tomorrow.

LazyLinePainterJane · 16/12/2008 21:08

why does she so often cook in a denim jacket?

Huggle · 16/12/2008 21:18

Can anyone tell me where I can find those short-handled black spatulas she was using yesterday?

MrsMattie · 17/12/2008 14:40

lol!@lazyLinePainterJane

I sky-plussed this and watched bith episodes so far while feeding DD in the middle of the night . Was strangely relaxing. I loved the Lychee Martinis (looked like they'd blow your head off, though!) and Gutbuster Pie. Yum. Is it on again tonight?

Love her show but none of it stands analysis.

I don't get how she can say she doesn't want to queue up etc and buy presents so she makes them herself - with ingredients that she must have queued up and bought?

No matter how easy she makes it look, it's still more hassle than buying stuff off the shelf.

wasabipeanut · 17/12/2008 16:29

I was amused by the expresso martini concept - caffiene and huge amounts of alcohol in one glass. Brilliant. You'd be as dehydrated as hell and peeing like mad.

NewHollyOtherIvy · 17/12/2008 16:31

The onion and pom garnish was thinly sliced red onions soaked for a bit in pomegranate juice, taken out and sprinkled over the tagini with pomegranate seeds and chopped coriander.

Totally agree - how lethal was that expresso martini?? Might have to try some

NewHollyOtherIvy · 17/12/2008 16:32

The last episode's on tonight by the way.

GreenMonkies · 17/12/2008 16:38

It did all look really nice, but, I am going to be pedantic about her "mince meat". That was a cranberry filling, not mincemeat.

Mincemeat dates back to the middle ages and the basic ingredients are grated apple (bramleys if you're going to be a real stickler for tradition!) dried fruit (raisins, sultanas and currents) ground almonds, suet and brandy. (originally it contained minced steak too, hence the name) It's a preserve. You don't cook it in a pan on the stove, you make it in September (when the bramleys are in season) and leave it to mature until December.

I would like the cranberry recipe though, it did sound lovely, even (dried fruit hating) DP said it looked nice, so if anyone has it I'd like to give it a try. But it's not mincemeat.....mutter, mutter, mutter.....

NewHollyOtherIvy · 17/12/2008 17:08

Here you go Nigella's "mincemeat" recipe

TheOtherMaryPoppinsJingles · 17/12/2008 17:14

I'll be making puddinis with my leftover !lb pudding that only I like, they looked ultra cute.
The lychee martinis looked interesting but I can't remember if I like lychees or not!

TheOtherMaryPoppinsJingles · 17/12/2008 17:15

oh and that bourbon butterscoth stuff on the Girdlebuster Pie, would be luscious warm on good vanilla icecream

GreenMonkies · 17/12/2008 21:21

Thank you New Holly!!
