I thought it was upsettingly unrealistic wrt the prematurity of the baby, the intervention needed and the information and support offered to Roxy by the neonatal staff. It would be very unsusual for a 33wk gestation baby with no other risk factors to need ventilation especially after having clearly cried and been in reasonable shape soon after birth.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets really stressed out about birth scenes on telly!

You'd think they'd be able to talk to a midwife or something and make it realistic...

Simplysally · 17/11/2008 21:39

Haven't seen it but I'm jealous that all these woman have their waters pop spontenously - I had to be induced with dd and then have mine broken.

I'd loved to have flooded the floor and then sat around talking about it .

The only time I've seen any nod towards reality in soap births was when Big Mo delivered Sonia's baby and covered the settee in newspaper first. Bet they still had to replace the settee though .

sweetkitty · 17/11/2008 21:44

Why is no one is soapland ever induced or have a planned csection?

They must all go into labour early and it last oh about 5 minutes.

Simplysally · 17/11/2008 21:48

Daisha in Holby City managed to deliver her baby in a stuck lift (I think the timescale was slightly longer than 60 mins as there was other stories going on) but she was spotless when they managed to get to her. She won't need 6wks supply of Always .

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 17/11/2008 22:09

lol! Her baby was early! We didn't see the diarrhoea/vomiting/poo on baby either.

thefortbuilder · 17/11/2008 23:16

ladidadi ds2 was born at 34 weeks, cried, needed oxygen to pink him up and then had to be ventilated after, then with prongs for 7 days and ab's for 5 days as he'd picked up an infection at birth, so what they have suggested can happen, it was just dealt with so so so badly.

they would at least have managed to talk through some of the possibilities with her at some point in her 25 minute labour.... or managed to get her a wheelchair to get to the nnu in

makes me so mad and they would ahve asked if she wanted a picture, after taking her to see the baby. and they would have said she could touch the baby through the holes in the incubator

2 nnu babies makes you much too much of an expert to watch EE cocking it up

Fimbo · 17/11/2008 23:21

I may be very wrong here, but I thought I read somewhere that the baby does have a "condition", which Jack gets to hear about and Jack begins to wonder about the baby's parentage. But that was all that was said. I know his daughter Penny is in a wheelchair but was that because of him?

nancy75 · 17/11/2008 23:29

penny got run over

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 17/11/2008 23:32

I thought it was a car accident.

Fimbo · 17/11/2008 23:35

Aye it's probably a load of cack.

LaDiDaDi · 18/11/2008 22:05

Oh flick I know from my experience that it can happen, it's unusual at that gestation and imo therefore wasn't very realistic particularly like you say when you take into account all of the other factors that were totally wrong.
