Anyone watch Brokeback Mountain?

I thought it was quite touching. Hard to listen to as Heath Ledger (god rest) spoke in quiet gruf American tone. I like Jake Gyhllenhall since Donnie Darko. Worth watching.

i love broke back mountain and have watched it several times, it really touches me.

DumbledoresGirl · 26/10/2008 14:23

darkpunk, crying all over again now.

DumbledoresGirl · 26/10/2008 14:28

Totally disagree Custy. FWIW, I cried in the cinema when I first saw the film, which was obviously way before HL died. It is all the pent-up, unspoken emotion and the utter sadness that they can't live together that got to me.

And there definitely is something very beautiful about the way it is filmed, but I am not big on cinematography so I can't explain that one properly.

THW, you can't have seen many films then, if that one was the worst you have seen. Ever watched Angus thongs and perfect snogging for instance?

'FWIW, my fave film of all time is actually The Green Mile.. now that is a fantastic and amazing film imho. '

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than endure The Green Mile in its entirety.

I think it's a beautiful and heartbreaking film.

ShowOfHands · 26/10/2008 14:53

Oh God The Green Mile. I'd rather have dinner with Jim Davidson.

I saw Brokeback in the cinema too so nothing to do with the extremely sad death of HL (can I just agree re the insurance thing too- disgusting that it's even in question) and was extremely moved by it.

It's hauntingly beautiful. The location is bigger than the characters, just visually stunning and beautifully imagined. The one thing that it leaves me with each time I see it, is the knowledge that it's nothing to do with sexuality. That to me, THW, is your elusive point. Private chats with friends have always seen me defending my position that I couldn't fall in love with another woman because I'm afraid they're lacking a vital piece of equipment. Now, while that may still be true for me, Brokeback Mountain is such a well drawn picture of love and human needs. The gender issue is unimportant.

I find it extremely galling that people have dismissed it as 'gay cowboys' without seeing it. It's nothing and everything to do with sexuality. Although, I'm glad they haven't bothered to watch it because they wouldn't appreciate it anyway.

darkpunk · 26/10/2008 14:58

that's how i see the film too..nothing to do with being gay..more about falling in love with someone you can never really have.

masonbaby · 26/10/2008 15:00

i met with that response from family members...oh we turned it off after twenty mins, it turned our stomachs! whats even more shocking about that is my brother was gay and didnt want to be...to the point that he killed himself at the age of 24. Not suprising really when his own family has such a disgusting attitude towards homosexuality.

When watching the film, i never once thought about the fact it was a relationship between two men, but how sad it was that two people couldnt be together except a handful of times in their lifetime. I thought the makers of it handled the sexual side of it very well, there were a few scenes, but it was mostly focussed on the emotional side of it, something i think is very important.

LaTricoteuse · 26/10/2008 15:01

Totally agree with showofhands and darkpunk.

The Green Mile - well, Tom Hanks is enough to put me off completely for starters.

ShosheTheGhoshe · 26/10/2008 15:05

It is my favorite film of all time, such a love story.

By the time they are reunited you forget that they are Gay, they are just two people in love.

I have watched it so many times, although have found it hard since Heath. RIP

Heath and Michelle should have won the Oscars for their parts.

Michelle is a much underrated actress, the part where she walks away from the door when she sees them, is shattering.

salsmum · 26/10/2008 15:08

GREAT FILM,
I went to see it with my gay mate He'd seen the trailer of them jumping in the river semi-naked and was quite dissapointed it was'nt actually as grafik [sp] in the film...and I had to agree

ShowOfHands · 26/10/2008 15:09

Yes Shoshe. I absolutely agree. Watching it now as a wife and mother, her understated part is shattering.

masonbaby, I'm sorry about your brother.

thats okay i didnt say it for sympathy though, just to point out that its a pretty rubbish attitude to have 'gay cowboys'..about a film that actually highlights homosexuality is about love too...not just lust. You cant always choose whom you fall in love with

jojosmaman · 26/10/2008 15:13

I actually watched it on a long haul flight and even on that tiny screen i was taken aback by the cinematography. I thought the way it was portrayed was beautiful too and I am desparate to watch it again on the big screen.

Just remembered that I also watched Monster on a long haul flight, another light hearted film to pass the time on a flight !

AbbaFan · 26/10/2008 15:27

'The only thing that made that film was becuase he died' - by Custy

No not true, the film was way hyped when it came out. Plus I saw it way before Heath died, and just loved it.

This is actually one of the films that I really regret not seeing at the cinema.

PuppyMonkey · 26/10/2008 15:31

I was also VERY disappointed with this film - I found it utterly unconvincing actually. And you couldn't understand a blardy word anyone said they all mumbled so much.

And Donnie Darko - what a crock of shite...

Tortington · 26/10/2008 19:32

that he died in the film - that hes dead at the moment doesn't give or take anything from it

Tortington · 26/10/2008 19:32

that jake died in the film - made the film
that HL is dead makes no mind is what i mean

AbbaFan · 26/10/2008 20:18

Sorry - thought you meant Heath.
