well, to be fair one is a vicious attack and the other is volunteered for by the subject. if i ask to be viciously attacked, i bear that responsibility surely?

Lazarou · 24/08/2008 23:36

I think she looked a lot better, particularly her saggy jawline. I'd read the article this programme was based on (think it was in Marie Claire or Red?) and didn't think she looked that different but on tv it made a big difference.

I wanted to think she didn't look different but I think she genuinely did.

Still would never have it done and would prefer to continue to bemoan a society which encourages this obsession with vanity

expatinscotland · 24/08/2008 23:37

hmm. i could go for a chemical peel.

no needles, right?

Lazarou · 24/08/2008 23:38

Anyway, I need to get my fanjita tightened before I start rearranging my face.

Aitch · 24/08/2008 23:39

she did look much better. partly, though, down to the fact that for the first part of the show she left her mouth hanging open all the time.

ooh, did you read about that procedure where you get your g-spot injected to make it super sensitive (about £700)so you can very easily have orgasms and multiples?

expatinscotland · 24/08/2008 23:40

she didn't look a very happy person.

Aitch · 24/08/2008 23:41

of course. but it's not reasonable to directly compare it to an acid attack in India, it just isn't.

Megglevache · 24/08/2008 23:41

another natural beauty here

GivePeasAChance · 24/08/2008 23:43

IMO old must be a state of mind - my DS1 said to my mum (66) today, "but grandma, you're not old"

She nearly wept.

And she doesn't seem old

And she has not had botox, facelift, peel.

When you get to your 60's, it doesn't matter what you have had done - if you have a bitter old attitude, then you will be old, and vice versa ?

You know what I mean. People in their 60s with surgery are more often than not just a bit uncomfortable and unsettling; just not happy.

She said that she goes out with much younger men as well, so no wonder she's single still. She didn't look old, just a bit battered. Too much naughtiness methinks.

giraffescantdancethetango · 24/08/2008 23:44

oooh god i was cringing so much

Lauriefairycake · 24/08/2008 23:46

she was 3 years older than me. I'm so tempted to post a close up picture of myself and get you all to compare age lines/general sagginess. My dh says i still look 'young' but because i just never think about it i have no real idea how well or badly I'm ageing.

Aitch · 24/08/2008 23:51

pah, who considers it normal? normal is lipstick and foundation, not acid.

and the reason these women do chemical peels is because they (for whatever reason) want to look better. it's a temporary masochism for a desired result. to compare that to the deliberate and permanent blinding and wounding of women in india is pretty crass tbh.

Helennn · 24/08/2008 23:57

The eye treatment was called Fraxel, for any-one who is actually interested, (like those of us with acne scarring who feel it would actually make us feel better about ourselves and that we could look decent without a trowel load of foundation on).

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2008 08:49

didn't watch it to the end but I think the prob with Kate Spicer is that she has a naturally miserable face at rest - when she smiled she look much nicer- but she doesn't do that very much - on tv she comes across as disappointed and sad - and she's a food critic -I'd be cheery ! She has nice hair too which I think is half the battle - I want to say lighten up woman to her all the time

I didn't see this but I agree with cod (obv having not seen it am expert)

on one of these programmes they had a woman with a perfectly normal nose who said she needed a nose job

but what she needed was a new haircut and a better jumper

she stood there, in a drab outfit of black baggy t-shirt and highwaist jeans, with her hair having not been cut for about 3 years, and no make-up on, going "I would look so much better with a nose job"

now I have a mahooosive nose but even I know that what she needed was a bit of slap on

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2008 08:58

yes, agree - that's what I meant by the hair really - it's decent hair (colour nice and good style, just brush it as cod said) and a bit of make up,esp her eyes which look anaemic without anything on and learn to SMILE
