Ooh, just got to join in this one ..

When that hideous AJ woman said that the Russian girls boots were not suitable for indoors, did she not notice her own Prostitutes outfit that she was wearing ?

How unattractive was she ? All she wanted was that poor boy to tie to the bed. Her 'treasures' were obviously not that important to her as they wanted the young girl au pair and not the chap she eventually chose.

I'd have decked her within the first hour. She was rude, opinionated, arrogant and a control freak.

The pay is degrading so good on the young chap for negotiating £100 per week.

Bramshott · 17/07/2008 10:10

I had to turn this off - I couldn't believe that anyone could behave like that, or let their children see that sort of behaviour. Also felt so sad, particularly for the little girl, that the kids had so many childcarers in such a short period of time, for the purposes of a TV programme

turquoise · 17/07/2008 10:21

I felt pretty sad for AJ's daughters (who were so sweet - how can they be related to her - fancy having had 21 'bad' au pairs. And what an insane ego she clearly has, not to have considered for a moment that possibly her vile character and appalling demands might have something to do with it!

SimpleAsABC · 17/07/2008 11:03

I came home early this morning, just to find this thread (I was soooo sure there would be one).

AJ : Attrocious, bonkers, cow, dreadfully dressed, egotistic... any one seeing a pattern?

What were the others called? The family, was she called Karen?

Call me naive... but I didn't think she was that bad!

kiwibella · 17/07/2008 12:33

I also watched this in shock at how the SA mother behaved... I wonder whether she will notice when she watches this back. As for her dress-sense .

I agree with Bramshott - it was sad that the children had so many au pairs come through their homes in a sort-of trial. The little girl obviously adored both Chloe and the bloke. I didn't see the russian girl at their home.

I can't believe that both women thought that the russian girl was after a husband? She wasn't given a chance with the scary woman and I was pleased that she walked out... and that she stood up to her during the "feedback" session.

The pay is dreadful, even after factoring in living expenses. What happens at the end of three months once the producers finish paying their top-up?

This series has been awful... but no doubt, I'll watch it again .

chopchopbusybusy · 17/07/2008 12:42

AJ was just a nasty bitch. Fancy not offering Julia anything to eat and then offering her a cold burger hours later. And asking her to make the sandwiches then checking afterwards if Julia had used the out of date chicken FFS! All for £60 per week. And the rules... no eating the children's snacks - buy your own. AJ, she can't afford to buy her own!

MogTheForgetfulCat · 17/07/2008 13:51

Sat open-mouthed through this, alongside equally DH - what a pair of hideous, passive-aggressive bitches! And AJ has to be the most un-Christian person I've seen offering up a prayer for a while

Worth it for the look on the hairdresser's face when it became clear that AJ wanted to offer her Parisian totty the job and tghe subsequent furious back-pedalling to acquire Chloe

UniversallyChallenged · 17/07/2008 14:42

Yes, Mog agree with you re the back pedalling - they made themselves look so stupid "we aren't offering you the job because you are too young to care for our daughter" to then "obviously our daughter isnt that important - do you want the job"

altin · 17/07/2008 16:17

It's great tv, even if it does get the blood boiling. DH said that after watching last night his biggest nightamre would be waking up every morning with AJ on one side and that Jewish Princess Feltz-alike from a previous episode on the other

I was intrigued as to how Karen was going to 'mowld' Chloe (I was more angry at her pronunciation of the word than anything else), since that seemed to be the key reason as to her back-tracking and hiring her. She didn't have the good grace to suggest she might be a good au pair for her kids. Perhaps by 'mowld' she meant giving her a Toni & Guy bob.

AJ was almost a caricature of a caricature. She reminded me of that sketch with the woman in The Fast Show years back (anyone remember that?) who'd be abusive and bitter towards her own gender but would go all gooey as soon as a male walked in. Women like her do us no favours whatsoever; she also didn't do much to dispel the stereotype of South Africans, either.

I thought AJ was Kim's dd (from How Clean is Your Home)...shame her house wasn't though

AbbeyA · 17/07/2008 20:32

I thought that it was a very funny programme-where do they find these people! I loved the replies given by the Russian girl, all said with a smile-her English was very good! They wanted slave labour!

AbbeyA · 17/07/2008 20:33

It was a pity that the parents were so horrible because all the children were lovely.

catepilarr · 18/07/2008 13:23

every other sentence spoken by these b ladies is shocking. they both expect the aupairs to be personal slaves who eat nothing and work sixteen hours a day which they can boss around and talk down to.

PlinkyPonk · 18/07/2008 16:37

OMG watching the catch-up online. I am gobsmacked!

Its been awhile my French is not up to scratch is Au-Pair French for gormless slave or Mindless Robot? Its £60 a day & a Laura Ashley Bedroom!! Loving the Russian Women fantastic!

time4me · 20/07/2008 17:31

I watched it and was shocked. However they must contrive these awful employers otherwise it would be boring.
I used to know one or two au pairs from abroad in affluent Alderley Edge ( Man United players live) and they didnt do anything but drape themselves around the furniture. They just seemed to be a status symbol and didnt do anything. One had been rescued from a house where she said she was exploited, but really I think she didn`t want to do any house work at all.Yes AJ is awful, but very watchable. Thanks for the brilliant, funny and perceptive comments.

motheroftwoboys · 22/07/2008 14:25

I think one of the OPs got to the heart of the matter. These people just don't have a clue what "staff" are meant to do. We had a friend years ago who was an extremely well educated tv director. Times were hard and he went to train at some type of butler school. He got various butling (?) jobs all over the world after that (EXTREMELY well paid!) and he always said that the best employers were "old school"; the nouveau riche types were a total nightmare.
