It's so silly but entertaining viewing!

I did and surprised I enjoyed it. Not my usual watch but TV is dull just now. Actually cancelled Netflix

We’re giving it a go but the accents are so distracting, especially as Charlie Heatons one is spot on and everyone else seems to drop in and out of it. If you’re going to do it at least stick to it!

I got used to the accents.
It was ok, quite entertaining but not going to win any awards.

I watched up to episode 3 and then thought, “this is a pile of shit” and stopped. Grin

Ditto. Stopped at episode 3.

I thought it was gloriously daft and eccentric and probably cost about £100 to make.

No, the accent training alone will have cost more than that, per hour!
I loved the daftness.

It’s crap. Couldn’t even finish second episode.

Gave up after ep 3

It’s so unrealistic, lol. But I found it an enjoyable watch. Especially as there’s not much else on atm. It did remind me a bit of Widow’s Bay…

Clearinguptheclutter · 18/10/2026 08:56

It’s totally ridiculous but I did enjoy parts especially the setting and the claustrophobic nature of the community

liked in particular the kooky scientist, hope to see more of that actor

Josh Hartnett was totally a-list 25 years ago but is enjoying a bit of a career resurgence. Apparently he didn’t like being known as a Hollywood heart throb, married an English lady and is now an honorary Brit residing in the Sussex countryside.
Charlie Heaton of course is a Brit

also intrigued by the accents but I read an article by locals suggesting they did a pretty good job overall

localnotail · 18/10/2026 09:10

I did not finish watching it. It started brilliantly, but then went downhill massively.

Why the scientist did not show the clip of people being killed by a squid to everyone? She had the TV ready etc. And why she always looked so surprised???

I liked the actors and the scenery. And the fact they were transporting the whole house on the raft! That was amazing.

susiedaisy1912 · 18/10/2026 09:12

Watched the first episode and thought it was shite so gave up

IdentifyingAsAWoollyMammoth · 18/10/2026 09:20

Started well, descended about a third of the way through into absolute twaddle. Stole - sorry, borrowed - quite a few elements from Peter Benchley's The Beast (also about a giant squid terrorising a small remote town but over it's captured young rather than it's nest; also includes the squid attacking a submarine, a doctor that wants to study rather than kill it, a Croker-type character who runs what happens in the town for his own benefit... If Benchley was alive, there's probably enough similarities to try to sue)

It has encouraged me to do some googling on Newfoundland which I knew nothing about 🙈😂

It was very watchable shit!

The accents were fascinating and when I researched my sources (ChatGPT!) said they were quite authentic and stemmed from the places the first settlers came from - Ireland and south western England. Which makes sense.

I haven’t seen this show (and not sure I will, having read some of the comments 😂) but I went down an internet rabbithole a few years ago after watching a documentary which featured some fishermen in Newfoundland (can’t for the life of me remember what it was called) where I was amazed at the accents and had to go and read up on it. They really do have strong Irish and West Country sounds- fascinating.

Same. On the Netflix page on facebook there are lots of people commenting from the area who say the accent etc is spot on which I found really interesting!
