Another legal /lawyer drama with an impressive cast !!

Dominic West and Sienna Miller lead best British legal drama in years
A high-profile divorce battle is at the centre of Sky's dazzling and thoroughly entertaining new series.

The drama, which pits old school Cathcarts led by Beatrice Ubosi and St John Smallwood (Nina Sosanya and Pip Torrens in fine, malign form)

against the more right-on start-up Taylor & Byrne, helmed by husband and wife Nick Taylor and Serena Byrne (an equally impressive James McArdle and Phoebe Fox) – is a triumph, mostly.

In the battle for the spoils in the divorce of harrumphing tech billionaire Morgan Henderson (Dominic West) and brittle film star Carla Duval (Sienna Miller), the firms are populated with a veritable selection box of characters.

Tech billionaire Morgan Henderson sleeps with a woman who secretly takes a photograph of them and sends it to his film star wife Carla.

Her lawyers Nicholas Taylor and Serena Byrne reel at their client's honeytrap tactics, but can't resist a case that might make their name.

Soon they are in a race with Morgan's lawyers Cathcarts & Sons to serve divorce papers first.

Legal drama, starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller

There’s someone-for-everyone played by an ensemble without a weak link.

And just when you’re deciding if your favourite is Emma Laird or Celia Imrie, Miles Jupp or Nick Mohammed, up pops Archie Panjabi.

It’s like when you go to the shop on Boxing Day, replete on Christmas chocolate, only to discover that the Mini Eggs are on the shelves.

You make room.

As for showing off an aspirational London, even those of us who actually live in London, are now entertaining a move to War’s shinier, fancier, cleaner London – and not just because flats at the Barbican appear to be affordable. War feels like an American show because it’s so self-assured and confident but it’s resolutely, defiantly, proudly a drama set in London.

With its pert-buttocked lawyer rumpy-pumpy and gay drug-fuelled toilet cubicle canoodling, but not a whisper of a barrister’s wig or glimpse inside a courtroom until its penultimate episode, War (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/war-sky-legal-drama-trailer-newsupdate/) is no Rumpole of the Bailey.

But nor does it feel like Silk.

It goes in a different direction, is a different shape, from North Square.

It’s not middle of the road like New Street Law and it diverges dramatically from The Split.

In fact, George Kay’s glossy, smart, very high-end and thoroughly entertaining new show is quite unlike the British legal dramas that came before it.

You could just about call it a grown-up This Life but if you want to put it in proper context – establish precedent, if you will – better to look across the Atlantic to the spiritual home of the legal drama.

We may have had The Law longer than America but the US is somehow on more familiar terms with theirs than we are with ours in the UK.

I suspect this is related to having a written constitution (I know: they hardly ever mention it) but that fetishised document is the reason that firms like McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak and Lockhart & Gardner exist (fictionally) and occupy (very nice office) space in my brain.

As do – now – Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne.

For, from the get-go – the instantly credible names for the firms and its fancy opening titles – War feels very American.

Enjoyed this again - got a little confused with the flora £20k thing and the dripping water /pots

but he’s very rich wanting 100milion and £50k a month till retires

PeonyBulb · 10/10/2026 05:05

I don’t understand why Flora wasn’t offered a huge sum in the first place by Carla / Sienna M. Makes no sense. That part is jarring. I guess the plot will unfold.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2026 08:17

Guess so and as he filed first was he always planning to divorce or guessed from the honey trap which is now prositution

or thinking about it - did it mean the lawyers pay for the house leak so isn’t a bribe as such in her bank account

This would work as a box set you can binge (probably while scrolling) but it is not exciting enough to be a one episode a week drop.

If it was then we would all be looking forward to coming back week on week but I had forgotten all about it after watching last week until I saw it on Gogglebox

EasternStandard · 10/10/2026 19:54

We’re watching this and I like it. Love Dominic West. He’s good at being pissed off. And his lawyers are great.

I find Sienna Miller a bit flat and wooden but she has great hair. Mostly watching it for DW.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2026 20:08

I was waiting for this weeks but I have no life in the evenings 😂

I like to look up how realistic is this for a show. The mole storyline highly unlikely and implausible but the size of teams possible but more on finance etc

I agree. I think the problem for me is there isn’t enough focus on the personal lives of the characters. I know the central theme is the divorce of Carla and Morgan, but I think there’s a bit too much of the legal stuff. I also think there’s too many characters and I don’t buy Sienna Miller and Dominic West playing a long-term married couple. They don’t have much chemistry and he looks old enough to be her dad (in real life the gap is only twelve years).

But it’s glossy stuff, escapist and well-acted. It’s big budget and would never get made for terrestrial TV. Archie Renaux is going to be a big star.

hellomylov3 · 11/10/2026 15:05

I saw this on gogglebox and knew immediately it was my cup of tea. I loved the Affair that DW was in. All caught up, looking forward to ep 3. Had to check here to see if there was a thread! Big twist at the end that I was expecting!!

As an aside I was half watching at the start and thought that the guy Jonny & his gf were Morgan & Carla when they were young. I thought it was telling the story of how he went from nothing to making it big. Lol.

friedaklein · 12/10/2026 10:27

I thought E 2 was much better, though I find the actor playing Johnny ( the mole) annoying for no good reason. Always enjoy Dominic West and Pip Torrens.
I like all the legal shenanigans though the mole storyline is farfetched.
Did anyone pick up on Johnny's girlfriend being the daughter of Tilda Swinton? Doesn't look much like her.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/10/2026 15:35

It’s prob going to battle out for ages how much and who gets what house

You’ve probably watched it already but for future reference today’s episode was on Now when I checked at 7am today.

kiakoa · 16/10/2026 14:13

I am enjoying this, do we think the young lawyer will sleep with Carla & maybe end up siding with her

Sheeppig · 19/10/2026 12:09

I am really enjoying it. I have never watched anything like it before though so maybe it seems more original to me than it actually is. I really like the subplot of the hard-faced lawyers preparing for the arrival of their first-born. I didn't realise that Johnny's girlfriend is played by Tilda Swinton's daughter (who reminds me of 90s presenter Amanda de Cadenet) and Gabriel is Cillian Murphy's son so quite the nepo-baby cast!! And I love seeing Miles Jupp is just about anything and very much playing against type.
