What to watch with DS 14 next?

Shufflebumnessie · 20/08/2026 16:48

DS14 & I enjoy watching (mostly comedy) series together in the evening before bed. We finished Friends last night and I'm struggling with what to watch next.

So far he's really enjoyed:

Stranger Things
Big Bang
Young Sheldon
Friends
Modern Family
Schitts Creek
The Middle
Friday Night Dinner

We dip into The IT Crowd & Red Dwarf when DH is around.

He's suggested The last of us & Fallout (not comedies, I know), but I'm thinking they're a bit too adult based on the age ratings.

Any suggestions of ideally light series we can watch together? We have Disney +, HBO Max & Netflix.

Thanks in advance

Malcolm In The Middle
Superstore

Ghosts.

How about how I met your mother? Or the goldbergs?

amylou8 · 20/08/2026 17:02

If you like IT crowd and red dwarf try What we do in the shadows

TheChosenTwo · 20/08/2026 17:02

Bit different to some of the stuff on your already watched list but ds is 14 and we enjoyed the first series of Ludwig and are looking forward to the second series which is out very soon I believe. He loves David Mitchell on WILTY and that hooked him in to this. It’s quite funny and silly although more of a lighthearted comedy drama.

Only murders in the building on Disney

I was going to suggest this. Series 2 is out today!

What We Do In The Shadows is very rude! Maybe avoid that one.

How about Sherlock? Father Ted. Stath Lets Flats.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/08/2026 17:18

Go old school and introduce him to Merlin.

I’m presuming he’s not a Marvel fan? We’re re-watching Wandavision at the moment and loving it.

I think ‘Stuart fails to save the universe’ is on HBO. It’s another spinoff from TBBT starring Stuart , Bert, Kripke and Denise with some surprise guest appearances!

Malcolm In The Middle
Superstore

Thank you, I'd forgotten about both of those. I love Malcom in the Middle when I was younger, & I thought Superstore was excellent. I think he'd like them both. Thanks for the reminder.

We tried HIMYM but he just didn't get into it. Perhaps we'll try it again in the future.
I'd completely forgotten about the Goldberg's, I think he might really like that. Thanks.

My BiL mentioned that one but he thought it might be too adult for a 14 year old. I'll watch a couple of episodes to see. Thanks for the suggestion.

We're currently watching Scrubs on Disney with DS. The original, not the new one but we're working our way up.

Also Here We Go on iPlayer went down a treat with DD same age. And Ann Droid.

Thanks, I've not heard of Ludwig. I'll have a look.

Thanks, that's on our list to watch with DH but he's not home in the evenings that often so we've not started it yet.

Thanks for the heads up!
Never thought of Sherlock, had completely forgotten about Father Ted (whoO think he'd love) & never heard of Stath Lets Flats so I'll look at that. Thanks.

Ooh, you're right. We heard about that & said we must watch it (he absolutely loved Big Bang). I hadn't realised it had been released. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd forgotten about Scrubs (was never a big fan but perhaps I'll like it this time round).
Never heard of Here we go or Ann Droid but will have a look.

Our now 14 year old loved watching all the ones you’ve mentioned.
He’s currently in the front room with his 10 year old brother watching Malcolm in the middle.
He loved detectorists too and small prophets.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 20/08/2026 17:51

And only murders in the building was a huge hit 👍🏻
