Want something to watch that doesn't focus on romantic relationships - being dumped by husband.

Looking for distraction telly after my husband dropped a bombshell yesterday. Not confirmed yet, but I feel like we're over. Nobody else or anything like that, been a slow burn (for him - I knew things weren't always perfect but am truly stunned). Anyway, I don't really want to talk about that. Had a good talk with my sister for hours earlier. Have read a whole book today. So now looking for something to watch to distract me. Ideally avoiding any relationship stuff! I have Netflix, Disney, Apple and Amazon to choose from. Was going to list stuff I've liked but they all have bloody relationships! I do like crime stuff. Sorry for babbling and thanks in advance.

Aww sweetie I'm so sorry to hear that. Apparently the new series of cape fear (remake of the films) is very good. It's on my list. I've been watching half man which is pretty brutal.

ZoraBennett · 08/06/2026 21:53

Legends on Netflix is gripping.

Hope you find your happiness soon.

ALittleBitAhAh · 08/06/2026 21:56

@LoloblueI've not seen the original Cape Fear - remake on the list thanks 😀

@ZoraBennettI blasted through Legends a couple of weeks ago and loved it! Thank you 😊

Agree Legends is good.
Ponies - i think on Netflix is good. Set in 1970s Russia, spies, but not too serious.

I've just been watching Patience, think it is pretty good, if you like crime dramas.

CurbsideProphet · 08/06/2026 22:01

They've just announced the sequel has started filming, so my recommendation is the film Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. I'm pretty sure it's on Disney. Slight caveat that there is a little mention of romance right towards the end, but the main plot of the entire film is the friendship of Romy and Michelle and the madcap events around them attending their high school reunion. It is my favourite film of the 1990s.

I'm sorry for your situation, that's really tough.

ALittleBitAhAh · 08/06/2026 22:02

@Citadelica@concertinacornflakethanks both. Not seen Ponies or Patience. Feeling a bit pathetic right now though as don't think I will be able to concentrate. Think I'm going to call my sister again as that really was a good distraction. Building a good TV list for when I can't sleep later though so thanks all.

@CurbsideProphetthank you ❤️ Good shout on the film - not seen it in years and loved it when younger!

Post divorce, I waded through ALL of the The Walking Dead. The entire seasons plus spin off series. It was mindless survivalist stuff and exactly what I needed. Highly recommend. Now, four years on, I’ve met a decent chap. I’m not looking for anything more than a lovely man who’s emotionally sound.

Last night, we started watching Succession. I’ve seen it, it was new to him. Highly recommend.

BrickProblems · 09/06/2026 20:16

Most detective things will work. Sherlock Holmes was determinedly single. Poirot also. And Miss Marple!

MrsColinRobinson · 09/06/2026 20:44

I'd recommend Deadloch if you want some light relief. You'll find it on Prime

lilygrace29 · 09/06/2026 20:44

High potential on disney+ is great actually pretty funny x

Iwonderwhenwewander · 12/06/2026 10:10

Can recommend Elementary - a Sherlock Holmes spin off. Watched while dealing with my separation. No love interest, predictable enough that your attention can drift a bit, but somehow familiar and with jeopardy. Lots of episodes. I think it is on Prime.

Lexy2345 · 12/06/2026 15:49

Here We Go on iPlayer is lighthearted, funny and easy to watch.
See also The Cockfields.

Sesquioxides · 12/06/2026 15:51

Have you watched Only Murders in the Building? Also I agree with a PP about Elementary, it's a great modern take on Sherlock Holmes.

leeksinmiso · 12/06/2026 15:53

The 'Chernobyl' fictionalised series on HBO.

SharkEnthusiast · 12/06/2026 15:53

Came here to say Only Murders in the Building. It does warm up so stick with it and it’s very funny. I hope you are ok OP.

Topbird29 · 12/06/2026 15:59

Hope you are doing ok.

Watched "Send Help" the other week- bit of a black comedy - it's the one where Rachel McAdams is stuck on the desert island with her horrible boss. think might have been Disney +.

Also - the new :Anaconda" with Jack Black and Paul Rudd - very silly schlock horror (but not really horror).

And the 3 Knives Out films murder mystery films are all very good.

ktopfwcv · 12/06/2026 16:05

Uncle is what has got me through the past few weeks.

CrossPurposes · 12/06/2026 16:07

The scandi classic series The Killing and The Bridge might fit the bill.

miaCara · 12/06/2026 18:12

Just watched Send Help without knowing anything about it except @Topbird29 recommendation.

What an excellent escapist movie. Its a bit more horror with jump shocks and gore but stick with it . Such a good film kept me guessing where it was going all the way through.

PermanentTemporary · 12/06/2026 18:14

Ponies is terrific fun but does have some romantic bits.

For pure zen relaxation of yesteryear, lots of Watercolour Challenge episodes are on YouTube…

CeramicRoses · 12/06/2026 20:22

Narcos on Netflix, so good.

hairstreak · 12/06/2026 20:29

Agree Poirot is a perfect choice. Very comforting to know that Hercule Poirot and his little grey cells will just sort everything out, you don't really need to concentrate.

I'd also suggest Detectorists. There are a few relationships in there, but that's not what it's about really. The main relationship is a friendship between two guys who like metal detecting. Sounds dull, and in fact it's one of the most beautiful programmes I've ever seen.
