Official Eurovision audience survey seeks views on the contest’s current direction (5-10 minutes)

The EBU (the organisation behind Eurovision) has quietly released a survey for audiences to feedback on the current trajectory of the contest

You can fill it in here: survey.alchemer.eu/s3/91094056/Eurofan-Voice-2026

It’s not just for superfans, they want to hear even from casual viewers who only tune into the grand final on occasion too.

It’s a surprisingly open survey, there are some general questions about marketing, but there are also questions clearly referencing the political cloud that’s been over the contest for the past few years.

In particular there’s a question about whether artists should be considered separately to the countries they a representing, which appears to be a direct reference to Israel’s continued participation in the contest.

For lots of the questions, if you select ‘other’ it opens a text box where you can type your own answer.

Some notes from me (your friendly neighbourhood Eurovision fan):

— This is a survey by the EBU (not the BBC). The EBU is the “European Broadcasting Union” which is headquartered in Switzerland and organises the contest between member broadcasters in the European Broadcasting Area. If you want to feedback to the BBC about their participation in Eurovision/their broadcast of Eurovision this year, you can do so here: www.bbc.co.uk/contact/comments-feedback/#/Your%20comment

— ‘National Finals’ or ‘National Selections’ referred to in the survey refer to the selection shows that happen in most participating countries for their Eurovision song. The British versions of these shows have historically been a bit rubbish, but some of them around Europe are awesome. In particular, ‘UMK’ - the Finnish selection and ‘Melodiefestivalen’ - the Swedish selection - are often higher quality than the Eurovision shows themselves, and they have English language commentary too. In other parts of Europe some countries watch the National Selection shows from other countries on their version of the BBC. For instance, “Sanremo” - which is Italy’s song contest - is shown in Albania, Montenegro and Romania on TV with commentary.

-To people who may reply in the comments saying it should be shut down etc. the reality is that it won’t be. It’s extremely good value for money for broadcasters.

For context, one episode of Eastenders costs about the same to make as the UK’s participation costs in total - and in exchange the BBC gets 8-9 hours of broadcasting material. It’s probably one of the cheapest shows for the BBC per broadcast hour.

So the UK won’t be leaving anytime soon, and the contest probably will keep going - or at least limping on - for a few years yet, even if Israel wins (which would likely cause an increase in the number of countries withdrawing from the contest).
