Does anyone else find reality show friendships disturbingly... intense?

Am I alone in finding it weird that in TV shows where contestants are lumped together in a living situation they get so close so quickly? Hugging constantly, massaging each other, squealing with excitement that their companions are still in the game, or breaking down in tears when they're voted off, within mere hours of meeting each other for the first time? I just find it so, so odd! I'm watching Traitors for the first time (so no spoilers please!) and one chap puts his head down and sobs when it turns out another contestant has a boyfriend, because he fancies her and was hoping she'd marry him?! He only met her 4 days prior!! It just seems so peculiar to me. Maybe I'm just cold and aloof, I don't know. I just think rubbing each other, telling each other they love each other and referring to each other as 'best friends' within such a short time frame, especially in shows where they KNOW they're going to be pitted against each other, is kind of... unhealthy?

Yeah I said the same thing watching Traitors. I think it must be quite an intense bonding experience.

Contestants in reality show are acting, they follow instructions even not given a script. Pick a fight with XXX, start flirting with YYY, …
Everyone is camera time hungry so of course they are going to be as intense as possible to get air time.
Do people really still believe tv is genuine?

That's how I see it. They know that being the one everyone talks about will get them more fame/followers etc
