Soaps

And more...

Anything with excessive/loud background music. Was looking forward to the modern version of Magnum PI as I loved the original, but couldn't even get through the first half of the first of the new series as the background music was too noisy and intrusive meaning I could barely hear the actors (not to mention giving me a headache).

And yes, anything too dark. I like to be able to see the actors and what they're doing, but some films/programs have scenes so dark that you can barely see anything at all meaning squinting to try to see what's going on.

Reality shows and Horror.

I used to happily watch anything, but recently have developed a strong aversion to most kinds of physical violence.
Shooting someone? No problem. Punching someone repeatedly? Can't watch it. It's the sound it makes i think 🤔
First time round, I loved Peaky Blinders. Watching it now, nope. Not for me.

RedRiverShore6 · 28/04/2026 19:26

I also don't like true crime series, usually found on Netflix, so disappointing when a new series is advertised and it's about some weird murderer or scammer which has been dramatised.

Lots of nudity. We turn it off now if its gratuitous

Soaps for me too, I used to watch Eastenders avidly, from the first episode, yes I’m that old, 😀Corrie , grew up with it, so for at least fifty years. Remember when Emmerdale was a farm, so Emmerdale Farm with Annie Sugdan. Watched Neighbours, Home and Away, the bloody lot. I’m hoping it’s because the soaps are rubbish now compared to then, and not me being behind with the times. Still watching Classic Corrie, but that’s it.

Soaps. Can't stand them now although used to watch Hollyoaks religiously.

Anything with SA, DV etc also avoid books with this in as I spend my days talking about it for my job, so don't need it when I'm in my free time too. Not good for one's mental health.

I think they are rubbish now, I mean they were never high brow but the stories got more absurd and the storylines seem to just be the same for all soaps the just follow each other! Also I can't forgive the writers of EE killing off Martin Fowler 😤

The news

And me. I can scan the headlines on my news app but the news on tv is an endless tsunami of misery and makes me feel powerless and despairing. I can only control the little corner of my life so it’s better not to watch

Like other pps I avoid soaps and reality shows except for Race Across the World plus my guilty pleasure, certain property programmes like Location Location
