Can anyone explain the blue Range Rover advert storyline?

Can anyone explain what's going on in the Range Rover ad with the blue RR?The guy looking for his dogs lost red ball, the lady on horseback giving the coy smile and the red haired lady with the lens looking for her husband who has gone to find said red ball?

I haven't got a clue apart from it's an ad for a Range Rover...

I don't watch ads any more and this is the first time I feel I might be missing out on something 😂

YourWinter · Yesterday 14:45

I like it! It was filmed at Harewood House, with Theo James and Leo Hatton as his wife. It’s just showcasing how well the car suits a country estate with a giant chessboard to drive through, and steps to the door.

Fun fact: Theo James played the Turkish diplomat, Kemal Pamuk, in the first season of Downton Abbey.

The Irish wolfhound is called Mr Moose and is available for commissions through his agent.

Thank Google .

Irish wolfhounds don’t fetch.
The rest of it I have no idea. 😆

FettchYeSandbagges · Yesterday 15:05

I'm glad it's not just me and DH, we're utterly baffled as well.

Who is that random woman on a horse, and what's with the alpacas? And where are the rest of the chess pieces?

Irish Wolfhounds may well be over-represented in the world of stately homes, perhaps the lack of interest in his ball is a subtle hint that a different breed might better suit the human’s idea of canine enrichment. It is absolutely inconceivable that DD’s Labrador, or even my terrier, would lose a ball on grass (although a brand new ball did once get washed away down a fast-flowing river when my grandson misjudged the direction of his throw)!

damemaggiescurledupperlip · Yesterday 15:35

I am so sick of that ad.

damemaggiescurledupperlip · Yesterday 15:35

Except the alpacas

itsdifferentforgirls · Yesterday 16:08

He kind of gives the alpacas the eye too. Creep.

ginasevern · Yesterday 16:18

I don't think there is a storyline as such, I think the guy has just gone to look for the dog's ball in the Range Rover, thus emphasising that Range Rovers aren't for the riff raff. And that they can drive up the steps of stately homes, swerve chess pieces, alpacas and horseriders with ease all whilst looking like a proper upper crust poser.

Edited to say that it could be suggesting that Range Rovers are more suited to vast country estates rather than the medieval road systems of UK city centres. Which is a fair point.

GoldbergVariations · Yesterday 16:43

I think it's that he is using any old excuse to enjoy driving his Range Rover round his country estate, as his wife knows full well.

GoldbergVariations · Yesterday 16:46

I wouldn't bank on it being the dog's actual ball either. ;-)

Wolfiefan · Yesterday 19:04

@YourWinter 🤣🤣 He clearly isn’t meeting the enrichment needs of that dog. He seems much more interested in his wheels than the hound.

I thought it was Theo James! He was in Sanditon for a bit I think. Quite easy on the eye.

But… but… he’s driven over and around challenging obstacles to search 4000 acres for that ball!

Mr Moose seems completely nonplussed, in that wonderful wolfhound way, perhaps the lady of the house had cast doubt on his commitment?

BotterMon · Yesterday 21:33

They come across as arrogant and couldn't even remember what the ad was for. Typical of RR drivers.
I do like the dog however.

we thought it’s the vehicle for Theo James towards his 00 status…

When researching this, I did come across the location of Harewood House, but nothing about the actual meaning...

So where does the red ball and dog come into it eh? Eh? 😀And the woman on the horse, and the wife with the lens, and the Alpaca's which I'd forgotten about?

I'm still no clearer, but it's got people talking about it, which is the point of advertising I suppose!

ETA also I wince when that heavy vehicle drives over those steps

MudRitual · Today 12:00

It’s massively irritating, and I don’t think terribly effective, but I think it’s not that deep, and we’re supposed to grasp from the dog’s total lack of interest in his returned ball, that Lord Smug Git has pretended to Lady High Heels that the dog lost his ball and it’s imperative that he drive out in his shiny blue Range Rover to the distant reaches of their large estate find it asap, and return it to poor, pining Lordly Dog, even if it involves much stunt driving amidst Capability Brown landscapes, overtaking Lady Venetia out for a hack in a lot of lipstick, navigating alpacas and giant chess pieces and vrooming up the steps of your stately pile, because you are a Well-Heeled British Eccentric Plugging a Terribly British Brand.

MudRitual · Today 12:01

On the other hand, maybe it should be applauded for not being the usual aspirational car ad where someone drives a car through a volcanic landscape or around hairpin bends somewhere start and dramatic?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 12:03

Call me shallow but I just like the fit guy! What dog?!

He was also in The Gentlemen where he played a similar/same character.

Great series and worth a watch.

Ravishing Irish wolfhound way more appealing than Smug Git.

Bitzee · Today 12:12

Theo James’ character in the gentlemen is the pure embodiment of the range rover stereotype: an aristo and a drug dealer. What the alpacas are doing in the ad who knows but I like it.
