I didn’t realise it was on so that was a nice surprise. I’m quite shocked to think I was only a child when I first saw it 🤔 what were my parents thinking? It must’ve been on video. This must be my tenth time although this time I’ve put subtitles on

Many, many times. My favourite film, along with Part II. I was an adult when I first saw them, though!

Once and that was one time too many

ShowOfHands · 28/12/2025 22:55

I've never seen it.

BreakingBroken · 28/12/2025 22:57

i'm 60+ and never seen it.
zero interest in that genre.

DancingPony · 28/12/2025 22:57

Many times! I love it. When I was a student I used to put this and also Baz Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet on in the background when I was writing essays. Not at the same time you understand... I still love both films.

Mmimmyokay · 28/12/2025 22:58

Never.

Was thinking a while ago there are so many classic films I have never seen.

EachandEveryone · 28/12/2025 23:01

Lovely to see Diane Keaton and Al Pacino together

Never. But then I’ve never seen Titanic either.

Yes. It comes nowhere near passing the Bechdel test, and I just can’t get that interested in a bunch of men plotting against and killing other men. Yawnorama.

Blueuggboots · 29/12/2025 00:28

Never.

elp30 · 29/12/2025 00:58

I’ve seen Parts I & II at least 20 times. I absolutely love those films. The acting was superb and Al Pacino was quite beautiful back then 😘

SwedishEdith · 29/12/2025 01:03

Countless times. It's on so often. I love it in that I know it's a "great film". Beautiful cinematography, great acting etc. But it's so horrible to watch and definitely glamourised violent crime for a particular type of, mainly, male viewer.

RedRiverShore6 · 29/12/2025 07:03

Once, it would have been either on the tv or a video in the 70s or 80s, not something I would choose to watch again

It’s a film about the mafia, why would it pass the Bechdel test?

Agree.

EleanorReally · 29/12/2025 07:15

i didnt want to see it, dh has the film but wanted to, perhaps we should have watched it as the alternative we found on netflix was not brilliant

borntobequiet · 29/12/2025 07:18

I tried it once decades ago and was bored, lasted about 20 minutes and read a book instead.

Cocothepoodle · 29/12/2025 07:52

Tried once but couldn't understand what anyone was saying!

EachandEveryone · 29/12/2025 10:21

That’s why I use subtitles. Part 2 tonight.

I was explaining why I find it boring. It’s a bunch of men either shooting other men or talking about shooting other men. Excuse me for finding that eminently blah.

You are obviously at liberty to enjoy films that feature women only in peripheral roles.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 29/12/2025 10:27

Too many times!!! But simultaneously not enough!!!!

The one thing I hate is that the female characters are peripheral and under developed.
just a dire offering; bloody Kay and fucking Connnnnnie... 🙄

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 29/12/2025 10:32

Love it! I've watched it many times and Godfather two. The cinematography in the first film in particular is stunning. The last scene is like a painting by Caravaggio. Al Pacino is beautiful in the first film and you can see his slow descent into being corrupt.
