BBC Breakfast

I've always watched this in the mornings whilst getting ready to go downstairs to my office to work, but recently I'm getting more and more infuriated at every day there being less and less news and more and more interminable sections of 15 mins or more on topics that aren't news. Yes, they may be public interest, but everyday there is a 15 minute story about someone doing a marathon for MND or Chris Hoyle or someone else talking about a cancer diagnosis.

BBC iPlayer says BBC Breakfast is
"The latest news, sport, business and weather from the BBC's Breakfast team", I beg to bloody differ.

The other day there was a 25 minute segment about the Southport victims. This is sad, it is public interest, but the whole thing was an advert basically, for a show on that evening on the same subject.

I want to watch what has gone on in the world in the past 24 hours, not listen to the same bloody thing for ages.

Has anyone else noticed this? What better coverage can I watch where I actually can see and hear news rather than absolute nonsense about "retro decorations" or as with this morning Chris Bloody Hoyle again?

Please don't think I have no sympathy with cancer sufferers or MND etc, it's just not news really when it's on for the 5th time in a month.

That’s Sir Chris Hoy.

and to those of us living with cancer, his work to raise awareness was is invaluable.

Feel free to switch over.

SwedishEdith · 18/12/2025 08:53

His name is Chris Hoy. BBC Breakfast is a magazine type morning show and knows there will be young kids around so can't have relentless hard hitting news all the time. If you want non-stop news, I'd listen to radio 4 instead.

Stickytreacle · 18/12/2025 09:00

I'm with you OP. I've watched BBC for decades, but find it too full of repetitive stories and celebrity promotions now. I've switched off.

EchoedSilence · 18/12/2025 09:04

I enjoyed the retro decoration segment this morning. There's plenty of news in between the fluffier bits.

Coffeeishot · 18/12/2025 09:06

Bbc breakfast is a morning news and current affairs programme and considering the state of the world a segment about Christmas decorations switches your brain from the horrific news for a second,

Chris hoy has terminal cancer and trying to do good and inform people. Have a word with yourself !

Gribouille · 18/12/2025 09:07

There's a BBC News channel on 231, I believe that just deals in hard news.

OvernightBloats · 18/12/2025 09:07

It is so irritating that I have to change over after watching for about 15-20 minutes. Feels as though they are trying to fill up time with these long story features.

Also, BBC are obsessed with sport - there is far too much sports coverage on BBC breakfast. They assume that viewers want to know about every sport in detail. We don't!

The charity story fillers do also seem over reported. Why so many?

Yamyamabroad · 18/12/2025 09:16

I couldn't agree more. I have every sympathy for the Southport families but to insert a 30 minute documentary about them into the news show wasnt appropriate timing. I know that these articles raise awareness of things and money is raised but its every single day.

I expect there isn't enough news but I'd rather see inserts about something cheerful, like local Christmas festivities.

Coffeeishot · 18/12/2025 09:16

The news is rolling for 15/20 minutes how much news do you need ? Maybe go to one of the dedicated news channels if it is constant you want, my husband also complains about this 🙄 so he watches Euronnews weekend mornings.

This entirely.

Mulledjuice · 18/12/2025 09:22

Switch on the Today programme on R4?

surreygirly · 18/12/2025 09:50

Used to trust the BBC
Will never ever watch BBC news again
It has been shown to lie

Minnowsmouse · 18/12/2025 09:54

Yes I’ve had cancer so I don’t want to hear about it constantly. The BBC seem obsessed with illness and dying.

This is it. It's everyday. I have family members who have been affected by cancer, I still don't need to see it on the news repeatedly. Once a week a charity filler is fine or awareness raising but it's frankly ridiculous how many times can you have the same story tweaked and repeated.

Actually that is not how they describe it themselves.

Chris hoy has a documentary out and also a charity on the go that the BBC is featuring and this upsets you what do you want to see instead?

BBC Breakfast is a British television breakfast news programme, produced by BBC News and broadcast on BBC One every morning from 6:00am. It is also broadcast on the UK feed of BBC News channel on weekends. The simulcast is presented live, originally from the BBC Television Centre, London before moving in 2012 to MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester.[1] The programme is broadcast daily and contains a mixture of news, sport, weather, business and feature items. When BBC Breakfast is not broadcast on BBC One, it is transmitted via BBC Two

You will notice not just news.

That's not what it says on iPlayer, looks more like Wikipedia...

I've also moved away from BBC Breakfast because it was becoming a bit more like This Morning than actual news.

I didn't say it was from iplayer, and you are being obtuse now, if it bothers you find somewhere else for your news in the morning.

Sesma · 18/12/2025 20:40

They generally have the news on the hour for 15 minutes, how much news do you want, there are plenty of other news channels you could watch instead, 24 hours a day.

Funnily enough I don't get up especially at the hour on the hour to watch the 15 mins. It's meant to be a rolling news show and is more like a chat show that shows off charities.

If you hadn't noticed I asked for recommendations in my original post for other news channels, or did you miss that bit or did you just want to have a dig?

I think we should be able to rely on the BBC to tell us what it's meant to be about, rather than Wikipedia.... 🙄 Not sure what is obtuse about that
