Have only just seen that C4 started screening the Serpent Queen yesterday (saturday 22) and is available on line.

I know it was originally shown on one of the streaming services and wonder if anyone watched it. And if so what you thought.

So disillusioned with the 9pm slot on the terristial channels, and wondered if this would be a bit above the tedious, samey shows that get shown.

Thanks

Ooh, I've never heard of this before but looks good... I loved Samantha Morton in Harlots so might give it a go.

I miss Harlots, it was brilliant. Definitely going to give this a go. The Guardian said it was in the style of The Great, which was also fab.

Thank you I want to watch this, love this sort of historical drama!

I was really let down.

I hadn't realised it was going to be one of those lets give it a modern twist and it will be more watchable.

Well it just isn't because the modern cant show the reality of that period.

I did think, maybe it was going to be more along the lines of terror and suspense, but they seem to be going for the laughs.

And such a waste of Samantha Morten, who is such a versitile and moving actress.

Have watch 2 episodes, and just not sure I will continue.

What a shame.

Sad

Okay come back to say it gets better once Samantha Morton plays the character in later age - with Lee Ingleby(!) as her husband the King.

In fact all sorts of well know actors and actresses have short parts.

The story in so fascinating and menacing and intriguing that I dont know why they felt they needed to be a bit arty clever about it.

Would have been even more impactful just to have told the story straight.

And interesting history of course for those of us not very well educated!

Only realised late into the series that the Mary engaged to the Dauphin was the Mary we know as Mary Queen of Scots for instance.

I watched it when it streamed and did enjoy it - I've always liked C de M since I read Jean Plaidy's trilogy as a teenager. I also suspect that Margaret Attwood's The Testament is based on her.

Me too, Jean Plaidy is where most of my historical interest started.

@murasaki - yes my love of history began at 7 with her Yong Elizabeth and Young Mary Queen of Scots...... led to a degree in it too.
