Just finished ghosts and race across the world - what else could we watch as a family?

Well here's an odd one -

When my DS was about 10 yrs, I read him James Herriot's Cat Stories. Age 13, he just got a copy of All Creature's Great and Small out of the school library. We are now watching the series, one episode each night before bed. He's autistic so likes enjoys the routine. He's also a volunteer at a local Heritage Railway so is loving the vets' vintage cars. He is entertained by the country characters, relationships and finds the pranks that the vets play on each other hilarious.

Prior to our current All Creatures binge, we have watched Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory in the same way.

We enjoyed Ghosts too, the UK version not the US one which I enjoyed but DS didn't.

He also loves The Simpsons and Futurama.

We watched all the Bond movies as a family too, but just one/week on a Saturday evening. We did discuss the sexism.

We have watched a lot of the Marvel Movies and some of the Transformers movies.

DS didn't get on with the Bourne films as there's no comedy.

Freaky Friday was a surprise hit! Also Cheaper by the Dozen and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. There are a lot of goofy kids' movies from the 80's onwards that appeal to DS' sense of humour.

I was disappointed that he didn't enjoy Race Around the World. I am the only member of my immediate family that did.

I am looking forward to reading other people's suggestions.

Ah yes, just been reminded, Friday Night Dinner and Red Dwarf.

We watched Sherlock - one or two scary/violent bits, but mostly really entertaining, funny, interesting and inspired lots of Conan Doyle reading.

Also Phileas Fogg and, Enola Holmes.

The bake off? My DDs enjoy it but find the episodes quite long so we sometimes watch in two sittings!

WingingItMam48 · 04/10/2025 19:57

Only murders in the building?

If they liked Race Across the World there is a new series starting this week on Channel 4 called Worlds Apart.

How about the Freddy Flintoff’s series on getting young people into Cricket and revitalising local clubs? He is so candid about his own struggles and the DC in the show seem to really respond well to him.

We’re really enjoying High Potential on Disney.

My son is 14. We have loved Waterloo road, ackley bridge, young Sheldon, race accross the world, heart stopper, after life, heart We do struggle to find things as our interests vary so much. We have started watching wayward pines and can now watch more adult themed programmes. I’d like to watch friends with him but he’s not interested.

Modern Family and Superstore.
We also enjoyed Hunted (though I find things with ads really tedious) and Taskmaster.
We tried Waterloo road but DS2 found it quite triggering as it reminded him too much of school!

Our 10 and 11 year olds love Here We Go and they enjoyed Friday Night Dinner. Probably controversial, but they absolutely love Motherland and the odd episode of Inside Number Nine (we vet them beforehand), but we’re not averse to them hearing swearing etc.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 05/10/2025 15:13

Mine love Task Master! Definitely great if you want a laugh.

CaveMum · 05/10/2025 15:23

Taskmaster - they do a bleeped version if you want to avoid the swearing.

Mine love Traitors too (I’ve let them start watching S1) there is some swearing but it’s not too bad.

The Goonies is one of the best for 80s humor!
