I have started this thread out of pure lust for two of the actors sat on the This Morning sofa

Historical drama set in 19th Century Dublin and New York

Based on a true story:

Looks good. All episodes released at 8am on Thursday, so expect spoilers on the thread.

House of Guinness: who were the scandalous family at the heart of the Netflix series?

Four siblings, one dead patriarch and a whole lot of drama — we separate the fiction from the historical facts

I mean...it's massive! I thought it couldn't be real but having read an interview with the actor, it seems it is 😳

Louis Partridge, who plays the younger son, is absolutely gorgeous (and is dating Olivia Rodrigo). I was also worried about the violence and thought it looked a bit Disney-fied, but it’s had amazing reviews so will be starting it this week.

I’ve just finished it -outstanding.

Loved every episode.
That actor pictured is only 22!
I have a DS the same age, but nowhere near that level of maturity

Is it Anthony Boyle @OhTheProblemIsDefinitelyMe he is 31 years old, if its him, he's a brilliant northern Irish actor. Fantastic in Say Nothing another good netflix show but very much based on true events

@3kidsaremorethanenough no it’s Louis Partridge, AB is in it (and is in the bath scene everyone is talking about) but the first picture posted is of 22 year old LP who plays Edward.

Ah I see, I couldn't open it so couldn't see who it was. Yes the bath scene seems to be a talking point alright!

Just finished last ep - yeah not bad I would give it 7 out of 10.

Ep1 as with most series is a bit plodding with so much exposition but improves from Ep2 onwards.

Only negative for me was the irritating sound track - media luvvies trying too hard to be edgy with inane hip hop style nonsense and too hard to be authentic with some twee trad noise but still worth watching.

XelaM · 27/10/2025 21:31

So... I finished this.

I find James Norton's character the hottest in this (despite the unbelievable bath scene 😳 and I've seen James Norton's in A Little Life 😂 ) but the actor playing Edward is also very good-looking.

The series as a whole is quite nice, but...

(1) the soundtrack is awful;
(2) James Norton and the actress playing Olivia have zero chemistry in my view;
(3) the Guiness sister is very odd and annoying;
(4) I don't think the series follows historical events whatsoever given that most of the main characters are invented - why not just create a real biopic about this very interesting family instead of making stuff up;
(5) the whole story about Edward's pursuit of that odd noble woman was just strange;
(6) they all say "fuck" a lot - did they do that in the 19th century?
(7) the second brother Benjamin Guiness is portrayed as a total drunk fool so the story about women falling at his feet weren't very convincing, but I don't actually think the real Benjamin Guiness had anything in common with the on-sceen character. Doesn't the whole modern Guiness family descend from him?
